Just got hold of a rare badge (actually a number), that I would like to get replicated if possible.
Any recommendations or anywhere that may do this?

Thanks :-)

very droll.....

it's a simple 'number', rather than a stick on shirt type badge....

after something like those chrome ones you can buy, but obviously not in that style

I guess some indication of material and finish might be a good start. Maybe a pic?

You will probably need to get it machined from solid, suggest you google polymer machining or something similar in google and see if there is anyone near you that can do it. They will measure up the old part and make you a new one.

If it's chrome finish, then it will need to be electroplated afterwards - as again, do a google search and see if anyone can plate it for you after it's been machined.

Cheers

For low volume Rapid Prototyping and hand finishing may be cheaper than machining.

RP is very expensive; the equipment is capital intensive so costs are high and their customer base are people who want things quick and are prepared to pay top money... plus you wont have a CAD model for it.

Cheapest way to get it done is knocked out of solid, probably on a manual machine in a jobbing shop.

Whereabouts in Sussex are you? (without being too specific if you dont want)

OK, I'll go for Shrinkydinks (if you can remember those), Shrinkydinks make the best badges ever!

RP is a lot lot cheaper than it was even just a couple of years ago. With machining you pay for complexity (material is cheap) with RP you pay for volume (complexity is cheap). The cost of creating a 3d model is cheaper than programming a CNC machine tool for anything than a very simple part. A car badge is likely to be complex (still awaiting photo...)

make a mold etc. Look on some modelling forums eg people that make their own soldiers etc

If you wanted a few 100, i could get the cast in stainless steel at our factory.

Jokes a side we have got an injection molding machine. But plastic no my strong point. So not sure if they can be chromed after.

Hello biggrin

But yeah, without a drawing or a picture I can't really tell you anything.

Don't you love PH threads that start I need something but won't give enough info for helpful answers, such as size, proposed material to be used.
