Friday 31st August 2012 quote quote all
We were told a couple of weeks ago that Porsche have notified our dealership that there will be a delay in the delivery of our new Boxster S:

"It has just been brought to our attention by Porsche that we are going to
experience some delays on all our forward orders for Boxster production.

They have not given us the reasons for production delays but the higher
specification cars are likely to be effected more than the basic spec one."

Has anyone else been notified of the same, or know of why there is a hold up? We ordered a couple of months ago and were given a September build. As far as we are aware we are not even locked down yet. We have gone for a high spec, PAMS, PTV, PSE I guess are the problem items.

If we are not likely to get the car before early October we'd probably rather wait until the new year to get a 2013 first registered.

Cheers

yes... Seriously?

A bit of paint is delaying it? We've got the painted rollbars too!

If its an "all orders" delay perhaps it's because the S production line is moving to VAG Osnabruck around the end of next month, and they're allowing 8-10 weeks to get the line up and running and quality correct, etc. I don't know exact dates though, or why it's only the S. But some dealers will quote 2 months longer lead for the S and this is the reason, nothing to do with demand.

All as communicated to me by an OPC. I've heard corresponding lead times from other OPCs without the reason behind it.

This may not relate to your spec issue of course and I'm only relaying what's been told to me.

I dont know for sure but Removal from the configurator indicates a supply issue.

Black painted wheels got removed from the 991 configurator about two weeks ago and has not returned.

I have not checked the 981 recently but i reckon that is one reason for a delay.

I read some some where it was the painted roll bars.

Which you can see being a issue when you think every thing else is plug and play out a parts bin.

Getting roll bars painted before the build does sound like hassle if they are moving production.

Yep, mine supposedly delayed due to high spec and particularly the red interior.

Was due a July build, delayed approx 5 weeks. Currently, built and in quality control hopefully it will leave the factory in the next few days.....

Being honest if you have a September build, you wouldn't expect it until October anyway. Any delay is likely to push the delivey date to late October or November.

I was in my local OPC last week and they had a 991 (3.4 I think) with this glass roof in the showroom, so we had a close look at it. I have to say that it was quite well done, and much more desirable than the steel roof that was on the 991S just behind it.

I always thought the metal sunroof a waste of money, but if I was spec'ing a 991 coupe I would definitely include the glass roof, it made the interior much lighter and would give value without needing to be open, something I would probably rarely do with the either type.

Cheers,

Geoff

It is amazing. Only problem is you are not allowed to even spec it!
