Guys,

Think might have found a sweet new 991 C2S with more or less spec I am looking for.. the only thing missing strangely (as rest of spec is pretty decent) is the Bose system..

Has anybody over here have first-hand experience with the standard system ? Car is pretty far from where I live and havent had the opportunity to test in person. I thought about upgrading later but think might be a nightmare to change 7 speakers in a new car.

My understand is that it's the same system as the new Boxster 981 sound package plus you can get just below the Bose.

Any help appreciated.

Haven't heard the standard unit but I cannot imagine it's so bad that it's a deal breaker. Bose is not "all that".

I think the standard system is fine but I've never been one for ICE, I save it for indoors. That said I opted for Bose in the end, more to do with falling for the salesmans patter and talk of resale than anything else, but I can tell you that it is a massive improvement over the Bose in the 997.

I've not listened to either to any great extent, but from what I've read across a number of different forums, the Bose in the 991 is a big improvement over the 997. That said, if everything else about the car is perfect, not sure if this should put you have buying a car with the base stereo.

I spent a couple of weeks driving a 991 with stabdard audio. Its absolutely fine. I would not have spent money on the upgrade.

Consider also that the car still has no DAB, so if you're listening to radio it's FM quality anyway. Even on a more expensive system FM sounds so-so.

I have the standard stereo and it sounds just fine to my Hacienda- and Warehouse-blown eardrums. More to the point, my daughter thinks it's dandy.

I am frequently amused at the perceived importance of ICE in a sports car. Once I am "making progress" I tend to listen to the "symphony for the red line in 24 valves".

Standard system is fine to me, not that I use it much.

I think it depends on how musically inclined you are and how long you spend in traffic jams... But yes I agree 7000rpm + with a PSE is an aural symphony itself.

Indeed am also of the school which prefers a nice growl coming from the exhaust rather than pumping up the volume to listen o my hip hop collection. I actually leave it off alltogether in spirited driving as I need to hear every single noise affecting the car.

It's more for resale value perspective... But as they say you need to buy the car for you and not for the next person.. Just seen horror stories of R8 not selling for weeks because they didn't have B&O specced...

I will try to listen in person and report back. I currently have a BMW business hi fi in my M3 which sounds perfectly alright and should be very similar to base one, if it's anywhere close we should be ok.
