Oh, I'm having fun with the manual(s). My favourite so far,

"If you bought ze expensive 20" wheels and now realise ze ride is far too harsh, let ze tyre pressures down a bit" !

And here's another. Who decided we need a big red light in the middle of the dashboard to tell us the doors are locked? Mine now has a nice piece of black insulating tape stuck over it. Much better.

And that nice lever by the steering wheel which lets you change tracks on the CD - but no volume control, which is over the passenger side of the car if you can reach it past the gear lever.

And I've never before seen a car which needs FOUR levers by the steering wheel. Merc get by with one. BMW two. Four is just ridiculous.

And why does the radio have to be switched on to make the parking sensor display work? Idiotic.

And why do the radio mute and the stop/start cancel and the sport button (whatever that does) all default back to where you don't want them?

And don't get me started on DRLs

Or the stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid electric parking brake.

.... but the car itself seems to work rather nicely! biggrindriving

I cannot get used to this. Have to bend down everytime to find it and push it both ways to remember how to engage it.

It's a stupid thing from planet stupid (apparently near Stuttgart). I'm already wondering how to move it to a better position up on the centre console. Presumably it's only a switch....

Mind you, they probably hid it down there to stop passengers pushing the thing for comedy effect when you're cruising on the motorway!! The manual tells me it triggers an emergency braking function via the ABS. How on earth, in an emergency, you'd have the time and/or presence of mind to fumble under the dashboard to activate it is completely beyond me. In all my years of driving I don't recall ever thinking "What I really need right now is emergency braking via a hidden switch". The middle pedal generally covers things quite nicely.

Anyone managed a handbrake turn with one? I struggled when I last attempted (impossible to remember which way to pull or push, and you can't modulate the pressure). How am I supposed to get away from the baddies without being able to do this?

I think I have used the electric handbrake twice. The 991 has a hill start function that engages automatically on a slope.

I read once that overall stopping distance can be reduced by 25% by using the handbrake as well as the footbrake. I had to do it once and it did help, meaning I stopped behind the car in front rather in it. I'm not sure how well this translates to cars with electric handbrakes, but I got the impression the improvement came from the handbrake drum brakes being used as well as the discs.

Having had a brake failure in the last 12 months, the handbrake was essential to bring the car to a stop. I was wondering what was the position without a handbrake - it sounds like the electronic brake should work if required.

Just a thought, but did you actually look at the car you were going to buy before you ordered it?

Just because it's a Porsche doesn't mean it's perfect. If it didn't drive well I wouldn't have bought it.

Yes.

I stand by my previous post.

( But good for you for buying a car that annoys you wink )

I'm so glad to hear your car is perfect. Now pull your head out from wherever it's got stuck, open your eyes and have a look.

I find this post quite puzzling. I do agree with some of your observations (the radio and stop/start defaults for example) and I accept some of your comments might be tongue in cheek.

But I LOVE the 4th lever. Easy access to so many features of the OBC. And all configurable once you've delved into the workings. Have a proper play with it. It turns the sport design or standard steering wheels into a multifunction wheel for FREE (albeit without volume control). How many times have Porsche offered a freebie?

Electronic handbrake. What's the fuss? It's just a new way of doing an old task, which frees up space in the cabin. The luddites can grumble all they like, but seriously, what's the problem (once you've learned to press for pull and pull for press)?

Usually pull up to engage. Down to release.

(Bit like a regular handbrake in fact....... wobble )

Far from it - in fact my car annoys the hell out of me sometimes.

I just found your OP a little confusing, and still do.

Except it isn't. On the new Porsches it's push down to engage and pull back to disengage. Exactly the opposite from a conventional handbrake.
