Been hankering after a GT again and looking around the classified noticed how SLR prices continue to tumble.... Maybe time to scratch that itch instead.
Anyone got thoughts??

Anyone got thoughts?? OK, I'll be the one to ask, what's an SLR?

What a choice
Eitherway I think you would be pleasantly suprised with either one
The ford stunning road presence
The SLR a mass of grunt
Both good value at the moment IMO
Good luck, tough choice

Anyone got thoughts?? I am definitely biased owning a Ford GT but would definitely go for it again given the choice... in the looks compartment alone you have a timeless shape vs a nicer SL55 (or bigger SLK55). Maybe that's the reason prices are tumbling as well. As far as the dynamics go I can only vouch for the GT, great engine, fantastic gearbox and spot on handling. Careful that it has no electronic nannies so you need to know what you are doing.

The SLR is stunning imo, but at the same time not as in your face as the GT. I bet the SLR is a lot more practical (not that anyone buys a car like this for practicality), probably more expensive to service, more comfortable, easier to drive and I'd probably say more reliable. Depends what is wanted from the car really, a super GT or a muscle car.

I've owned a SLR - the LHD didn't bother me. It was usable even if the bonnet is the longest thing in the world. Didn't have any real probs with it, the alternator went but they sorted that out under good will. There are some big service items every 3 years or so.
Personally - I would have preferred if the stock car was like a 722... And if I got one again, it would be a 722 (albeit the prices are very firm) ... If not a 722 would only entertain a > 2006 as the brakes on mine (05) squealed like a London bus. Unofficially this was sorted in 06 cars...
Can't comment against a Ford GT. Would also like one at some point. Both in the old school blunderbuss style of power delivery without the PS3 style electronics and gizmo's of todays latest and greatest

GT for me as i have heard horror stories about SLR running costs and i agree it has some similarities to the previous model SL.

Depends what is wanted from the car really, a super GT or a muscle car. as I said I am definitely biased ...think the SLR is a great car don't get me wrong (side exhaust, carbon construction and engine are all great), not my cup of tea, especially the interior. on reliability not so sure, not much that can go wrong (electrics) in a gt and engine/transaxle is super-strong. service is sub 1k p.a., practicalitywise apart from width and fear of leaving it in the street is spot on. also don't be fooled in thinking it is a muscle car dynamically, very far from it, full aluminium construction, 4 double wishbone suspension.... in a B road context by far one of the best handling cars I have tried

If i sell my Gallardo i have a GT on my shortlist along with an SLS rather than an SLR.

I'd go for the Ford GT. There's a reason why they have rock solid residuals and SLR prices are tumbling On a more serious note, fast fords have and always will be popular. Coupled with the fact that it is an iconic shape and Ford did a great job launching and marketing the car, it is sure to become a future classic. Chris

6k miles = £6k 12K miles = £12k 18k miles = £6k 24k miles = £12k etc, etc..... Pretty sure it was 3k for a normal service and about 5.5k for the 'plugs out' service every 3 years

For me the GT has the edge on looks alone
The GT will continue to rise steadily IMHO
Whereas I think the SLR may stagnate rather than fall given that the SLS is the car it should have been in the 1st place and is a superior steer if more common sight
As already said nice choice to have enjoy
