McLaren P1 revealed

The waiting is (nearly) over

Going for the ultimate: world's best
Going for the ultimate: world's best
Here it is then: the first official look at the McLaren P1 - and it's epic.

The P1 sets out its stall quite simply: to be the best driver's car in the world. Not just on the road either, but on the track too.

"Twenty years ago, we raised the supercar performance bar with the F1," says Exec Chairman Ron Dennis. "Our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again."

"Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production car on a circuit," says MD Antony Sheriff.

Distinctly McLaren, with a twist

The P1 will be revealed as a design study to a no doubt salivating press corps at the Paris Motor Show, with more information to come at a press conference on 27 September. Production cars are expected to go on sale within the next 12 months. No price details as yet.

Slightly funky stuff in the side intakes but apart from that I think this is spot on. The MP4-12C looked a little Evora-ish but this thing is like... a bit too pretty to be a McLaren? I can't quite grasp how a place with such an anal tile-colour obsessive can make something so swoopy and nice.

Love it.
That has redefined what the rear of a car should be. Light cluster? Don't need it. What a rear end.

That's a lot prettier than i was expecting!

The back end looks bloomin' great - the sort of curves you only ever expect to see on a concept car

love it...

Quite like this. Hints of the Renault Alpine A110 concept at the back.

Nice to see they’ve cut down on the number of letters and numbers in the model designation too…

The back end look amazing. A much nicer car than the MP12-4C.

Oh yes. That's more like it.

Is this set to have a higher top speed than the F1?

Ferrari Press Car Tuners, start your stopwatches...

And is it a "P1" or an "MP4-P1"? Project 4 love them some recognition.

Hmm, back looks kinda nice and swoopy, but the front and sides look like "just another supercar" to me.

Looks stunning, and just about subtle enough to have the timeless impact of the F1, in my opinion.

Comparisons to the F1 will be inevitable, but that was a product of its time well over a decade ago. This will be heavier and it will be full of electronics, but that's a given for almost anything built by a 'proper' manufacturer these days.

The front looks a bit Downs Syndrome to me. Not a PC term, I know, but I can't think of any other way to put it.

They've integrated the McLaren logo into the front lamps. Nice touch.

ETA: Lewis will stay at McLaren now too hehe

yuck

Such a shame because the subtle looks of the MP4-12C were the best thing about it for me.
