Hello all,

I'm currently having a full new chassis replacement on my Chim.

As my brakes are a bit old and in need of restoration, I've been advised to go for a Hi Spec brake conversion.

Does anyone have these? Are they any good?

Many thanks

Steve.

We Have run Hi spec brakes on the yellow and purple racing Sagaris for a number of years now.
They are basically a copy of AP

Thanks. I was slightly concerned after having a look on the internet. There seems to be quite a lot of negative reviews.

However, if they're good enough for your needs then I'm sure they'll be good enough for road use.

I fitted Hi Spec calipers to my 1992 Griff 400 in 2009 and they have been superb. Though I found that as the disc size was larger the brake balance move too much to the front and subsequently had tou upgrade the rears to the larger disc size as fitted to later cars. This required new bearing carriers as well as calipers and discs.

Hi spec made up some new rotors for my Cerbera last year.
I have had no problems with them. Good price too from what I can remember.

I have these on my Griff. I haven't tried them on a track, but so far they've been fine on the road.

After many months deliberating between AP, Brembo and HiSpec for my brake upgrade to my E46 BMW, I plumped for the cheapest option - HiSpec - and I have to say I have been disappointed with them. My TVR garage eventually improved them by fitting a different disc and different pad, but they still rattle.

Could just be the E46 version, and it is a much heavier car the a TVR.

I note Dom uses them on his Sagaris too and is reportedly very pleased with them, as appear to be the Sag racers.

He uses CL pads in them, then they work nicely!

Wasn't there a TVR owner on here who took them to court a couple of years or so back over a installation?

Yes but I think that was to do with an alledged dangerous design on rear callipers which were subsequently withdrawn. I use them on the front and find them very good.

I use Hi-Spec Monster brakes on my track car and they have proved to be excellent.

Everyone who drives or passengers in it comments on how effective they are despite repeated hard use.

The discs lasted approx. 3 seasons of regular abuse before being replaced last winter. I did 170 laps around the Brands Hatch Indy circuit last week and they were absolutely fine and I doubt very much anyone would drive on the road like I drive on a track.

This is good stuff smile Will the 300mm jobbies fit the standard (500) 15" front wheels or would it have to be the 283mm ones? Read somewhere some time ago that any bigger than 300mm on the front and you need to look at the backs as well? Prices seem very reasonable smile

As you said, plenty of negative reviews and I know when mine were originally fitted by Tower View, there were some issues with parts etc BUT, they've now been on the probably 10 years and have performed perfectly. Also, they were very helpful when double checking which pads I needed (the original pattern I was using stopped being made). They now have Brummmie's CL pads in them too and were even better last time at Cadwell (may have to sort out rears now!).
