best place for poly bushes/bolt kits&what paint for chassis?

hi all just taken rear wishbones/anti roll bar off to de crust and paint so thought might as well do the bushes while its all of so now need to find best place/prices to get them now steve heath has stopped trading.

also what paint should i use hammerite

ive got some por 15 (5 pot chassis packs) , and 2 pack white that i,m just about to put in the ads, as i did a body off on mine and powder coated in the end.

i know sportmotive use a 2 pack chassis paint for theirs

Might be worth contacting Powerflex direct for your bushes. Not sure where you would go for new nuts and bolts now Steve has closed.

Maybe an email to Steve`s new company ecu mate, and see if he has sorted out anyone to take over the selling of his products.

Power Flex have them on e-bay all the time, ill be doing mine over the winter but i think ill be going for original bushes rather than power poly bushes.
Poly bushed a previous chimaera and made the ride hard, I did change the shocks at the same time though so could have been the shocks or a combination of both.

Don't use Hammerite - it chips off in no time. POR or 2 pack would be better.

I brought a complete set of poly-bushes from Steve before he moved on. The ride now is so much more relaxing, rather than hitting pot holes and feeling the depth now the suspension moves through the correct arc and there is no binding or feeling resistance of the old rubber bushes. I would recommend poly-bushes.

I fitted some poly bushes to front lower wishbones (purchased from Steve) when looking to replace the uppers and purchase the appropriate poly bushes, the TVR specialist I spoke to recommended against using poly bushes at all. Saying that they degrade performance. This was based from experience in Tuscan racers where they had tried poly bushes and found handling seriously compromised and reverted back to the original equipment bushings.

It was explained, and makes sense, that normally poly bushes would be an improvement over a bog standard car's bushes from increasing stiffness but when compared to the original TVR bushes the performance (for fast cornering) is reduced as the original bushes only have 2 or 3mm of flexible material (rubber?) between the metal bushing/bearings - compared to approximately 10-12mm of compliant polyurethane as found in poly bushes. Could this explain why Baker above found ride more relaxing and less resistance - i.e. from softer bushes?

Controversial I know and I'm no expert on the subject but thought I should throw that out there.

It was also explained that poly bushes only last "a couple of races ". So for the additional expense and short life expectancy, you may wish to stick with the considerably cheaper originals?

I will put money on it if you put Polly`s in you wont notice any negative difference. I think there is a load of rubbish talked about this, polys being too hard and all that.

Powerflex offer a lifetime guarantee on their`s. If for any reason you did have to change the Poly`s again it is a simple task of pushing the old ones out by hand and replacing with new by hand.

Not so if you have put oem ones back in. They are a hassle to remove and i am sure when you have got them all out, replacing with Polys will seem like a good alternative.

I would not want to go back to OEM but each to their own.

Did the compleate front end with power flex bushes .. So much better than with worn OEM bushes ..

We run powerflex bushes in our griff racer and have had no probkema at all. Car doea exactly what i want it to do when i want it to... No downside from my experience. Also, give me a shout on the bolts - if you know sizes I might be able to help! Pm me. Ta Dave.

Going back to the paint theme, I used Rustoleum on the wishbones of a Seven I had, brilliant stuff, even on the exposed wishbones any stone chips just bruised it, it has a semi plastic nature and in my experience would not chip off, when the time comes to do the Chimp I would not hesitate to use again.

Fitted poly bushes to my 450 last year as part of a complete front and back suspension overhaul.
Result was fantastic but the o/e rubber ones that were removed were shot to F***.

Any tips for the removal/refitting or anything I should look out for?
How long do you think it will take?
I'll be getting the suspension setup properly afterwards. While I'm at it, would anyone recommend anything changing like drop links etc? I mean is it worth it or do they not make much difference? I would rather do it all at once

I have a full rear set of Steve Heath poly bushes ,god knows where they fit .I had a quick look in the boxes the other day ,they resembled a box of licquorice allsorts

Managed to get a price for replacing labour only £270

I think it will take a long time, I did them on my MK1 escort and took ages to get the original ones out, hacksaw, blow torch, vice.
Not really looking forward to doing it.

I thought if i'm doing them i may as well get the drop links if it makes a difference?

found complete set of poly bushes on ebay for £270 nearly £100 difference than racing green sets also on ebay,you just have to buy anti roll bar bushes seperate as apparentley theres a few different variants.

just found bolt kit as well all correct sizes&labelled up £90 with postage seems a bit steep so will get my old man to get his vernier out and see what ebay can do them for.

as regards the wishbones think ill get them blasted&powder coated or at least blasted then look into the paint recomendations for the bits on the chassis.

Bit of a random bump, but does anyone know of a shop that stocks this? I've just searched the obvious halfords and b&q, would rather be able to start it this weekend as once I tax it I will struggle to find time to lay underneath it

Also, will 1 litre be enough?
