What Car (Dont hate me!)
Discussion
right the mrs has said i can finally get rid of the micra and get something else for the commute to work.
budget it circa 1500 prefer less not too heavy on fuel id rather no less than about 30mpg (micra does 42 ish) journey is 60 mile round trip in fairly free flowing traffic. wouldnt mind an estate with a bit of poke and hardly any chance of major bork
id thought 9-5 aero estate but open to suggestions
cheers

Oh well that's a shame, considering the 156 Sportwagon is probably the nicest looking estate car out there for the money, and it's well and truly within budget! 2.0TS is a sweet engine and does not give major grief if looked after. Suspension arms are the usual offenders!Bang for buck probably goes to the Saab, your suggestion. Old B5 A4 Avant 1.8T perhaps? E36 BM would be the all round driver's choice I guess. £1500 only gets you into an old nail of a C Class, not the new shape, so I don't think Mercedes can offer much unless you wanted to get the estate job done properly and buy an E-Class. They're that bloody big in the back you could downsize to a one bedroom flat, and assuming that to be the case, you could hook yourself up with an E55 AMG...
Mr. Sensible would buy a Mazda 6. Christ, they don't even drive badly. But you don't want to do that though..
My 328 averaged 25mpg and I do lots of short trips and drive hard so 30 should be fairly achievable or as I said perhaps a 320 - lets face facts after a Micra it will seem like a rocket ship !
Mazda6 do drive well (for what they are) and the petrols are cheap and reliable BUT they are quite thirsty - my wife's 2.3 does 28 and she drives like a nun.
Alfa 156 - although the odd thing breaks they are good cars a mate bought one for "tip runs" for £300 and he loves it so much that it's ended up as his daily.
