Ok guys, I know somtimes the Aston/ Bond association can be a little predictable, or even embarrassing. But honestly, who amongst you has not blushed or smirked when the comparison between you and 007 has been made?!

You may have noticed that today has been celebrated as Bond Day after his 50 long years of fictional serving of Queen & country. Have you marked the day? Will you take part in this year's celebrations - or are you bored of the whole Bond thing?

A couple of invites have arisen for us on this excuse so we will be meeting a group of AM owners at Castle Combe on the morning of 14th October for the onward trip to Beaulieu to the Bond exhibition (I expect many of you have already been). We've also bought tickets to a charity black tie film premiere evening of Skyfall the night before the official film launch(one of many around the UK I suspect) - my little boy (husband) couldn't be more excited!

OK so he's apparently driving a Bentley this time but it has to be said that the Bond association with our favourite brand has been a long and worthwhile one smile

He's driving a Bentley in the new book, don't think there's a car in the film except BMT 216A which has been built into the story as his personal classic car now...

Went to Beaulieu last weekend - good exhibition and a lovely place smile

I particularly didn't enjoy the DBS that had been "manually damaged" to match the car damaged during earlier filming for continuation in the next scene. Can you imagine it...... "Right Dave, take this bunch of hammers and go smash up that DBS over there."

Going to stop typing now; feel a bit nauseous. weeping

Bond is an intrinsic part of the Aston Martin brand and I have no problem with that.

If I could drive an Aston I would. If I could get tickets to a Skyfall premiere I would. I would celebrate any British success story and I would enjoy celebrating this.

Some might think the Bond thing is a bit cheesy. I don't agree. The image of Sean Connery standing beside the DB5 in the Alps is iconic. It is about style, ingenuity, imagination, engineering. What human beings can achieve, and that there is nothing they can create that they do not first have to conceive.

I was surprised when I found that in the fifty years and all the films only eight had an Aston Martin and in a couple it was almost an extra. Seems as though it should be more.

That's not bad though! The Brosnan era of the BMWs was a very poor show. Aston offered the DB7 for free, but BMW paid big money to have the Z3 featured. Smart move, horrible car given instant kudos.

Plus 3 Lotus movies too with 'our Rog' as the man smile

I don't think many think that way. Even non-car people recognize Astons as "the Bond car" and their reactions always seem to be positive. The Bond connection has been great for Aston. I can't think of better advertising for the marque.

Do we know for certain that the Vanq won't appear in the new film? I'm wondering if it might make a surprise appearance. The concurrent release of the car and the film seems a little bit too coincidental.

Curious one this. Aston have a paint colour called 'Skyfall Silver' and I read somewhere in an American journal that he'd be driving it, but that may just have been supposition. But everyone else insists not! His DB5 makes an appearance which is nice, but it's not the same...

I for one think it's a cheesy association, but probably like a well-aged Stilton - very much the right type of cheese, the classy sort. Better to be known as having the car Bond drives in movies than the footballist image the Bentley Continental suffers with. Or worse, the rappers 'tool' of choice, the wonderful RR Phantom or even the 7-series-based Ghost. That makes me sad cry

I find it's easier to tell people I drive an Alfa Romeo. No-one really cares. If they do find out I have an Aston, then the inevitable cringing comments start rolleyes

Hi guys

Unfortunately I don't know the ETA for Beaulieu, all the info I have is the invite:

"Celebrate 50 Years of Bond
Aston Martin and James Bond have long held a special relationship. As this year marks the 50th Birthday of the James Bond franchise, we would like to invite you to celebrate one of Aston Martin’s most famous drivers in style by joining us at the Bond In Motion Exhibition - the largest official collection of original Bond vehicles the world has ever seen. There is only one condition…you must come in your Aston Martin!
The event is being held on Sunday 14th October at the Beaulieu Motoring Museum, but we ask you to meet us with other invited Aston Martin owners beforehand, at the Castle Combe Golf Club, to fill up on some bacon rolls, tea and coffee. We will then drive in convoy to the museum where you will be able to enjoy the Bond In Motion exhibition, Beaulieu Motor Museum, Beaulieu Abbey, World of Top Gear and the Palace House & Gardens.
Tickets cost £25 per person and covers all elements of the event. To book your place(s), reply to us at beaulieu@hrowen.co.uk with your vehicle registration number and name of your guest/s. You will then be contacted to confirm your place and to arrange payment."

We are looking forward to meeting more Astonauts there and wont be surprised if other dealerships are sending out similar invites. I know a lot of owners and/or AMOC members have already made this pilgrimage this year smile

Brilliant day yesterday, once the fog lifted and we found some quieter roads. Being in a convoy of Astons was fantastic and listening to robgt and mollygt BR'd v8s taking off at every (and I mean every) opportunity was both very amusing and also a pleasure. That car sounds amazing even 3 or 4 cars back. We must have turned a few heads not to mention upset a few cyclists who were out in force on our chosen route!

I also had the pleasure of a v8s for the day courtesy of hr owen Cheltenham's Rachel who gave up her drive for the day (I think her intention was to catch up on sleep to be honest) and once I got used to driving with flappy paddles I really enjoyed. It's a fantastic car, a step up from the 4.7 sportpack vantage I had a couple of years ago. That said, I'd personally rather have the v12v if I had to choose, I think it has a more aggressive edge.

The sight of just under 40 Astons lined up in a special parking area obviously thrilled unsuspecting museum tourists who seem to flock to the cars the entire time we were there, thus creating a few missing persons from what I overheard!

The museum itself I could take or leave, but it was worth a look and I like what they have done with the bond piece, showing clips from movies next to the respective vehicles!

All in all a wonderful day, nice to see rob and Molly again, robs enthusiasm for the brand being second to none and also meet some other Aston owners.

A big big thanks to everyone at Broughtons HR Owen for organising!

+ 1 on the thanks to the organisers and nice to see you too Rob. Great news about your next car!

So pleased that the noise of our S was appreciated and good that you got to experience an S too. I'm pleased you appreciated the difference from the standard V8 - you have to try it to understand it and, trust me, once you get used to that gearbox it's an absolute joy!

See you at the 'premiere' next week - the excitement is building with so many great reviews appearing in the press!

You've got tickets to the premiere of Skyfall Molly? How did you manage that?!

I think the reviews that say its the best Bond ever are bks. Haven't seen it yet but there's no way it can live up to the early ones in terms of entertainment value imo.
