Time For Tea? 962 on the street

Is your car love serious enough to pop to the shops in a Rothmans liveried 962 rep?

Driving a Le Mans winning Porsche 962 at Weissach and meeting the man that designed it is pretty cool.  Yes Chris, we’re still green with envy at that one. But so is owning a road legal replica of such a car and taking it out for a spin on the public road, like the Japanese gentlemen in possession of this Schuppan-built 962.

"I'm just popping out for some milk, love"
"I'm just popping out for some milk, love"
Road legal 962s from the likes of Schuppan, Dauer and Koenig aren’t unheard of but many wear dubious civilianised bodywork and though suitably outrageous in terms of rarity, exoticism, performance and price are curious vehicles that seem neither one thing nor t’other. So we salute the mentality that says why not go the whole hog and make it look like the ‘proper’ Le Mans winner. And enjoy the sheer incongruity of taking it out in public.

Artfully filmed homages to much-loved cars are springing up all over the place at the moment, not least on sites like Petrolicious from whom we shared a similarly paced vid about one man’s love for his Countach. Perfect Time For Tea? (or coffee!) fodder in our book so brew up, sit back and enjoy!

Saw this through SH last night. What a wonderful machine, no doubt the Porsche-loving PH massive will have a fit!

Very cool, apart from parking in a disabled space.

SCoM have a Dauer 962 in stock (or at least they did last time I did a butty run there). If you have to ask...

This is what dribble Schuppan normally made:

So doesn't that guy mean it is a car driven by Schuppan at some point?
Apparently this is real 962 factory car, not converted by Dauer, Schuppan and the likes that somehow ended up with a Japanese licenseplate?

I'm 99.9% certain I saw on of these parked up in town. I went to get a pic of it after dropping someone off and it had gone. Had I appreciated the rarity, I'd have got a pic sooner.

Sadly, only ever seen it once.

Taylor & Crawley have Dauer 962 for sale. I remember this car was for sale in Germany
back in 2005, the dealer had it in stock for some time. I'm glad it's now over here I love
the thing!

The car featured in the video has a carbon tub.

Were the original Porsche race cars made from an alloy tub ?

My ultimate road/track car. I was going to buy the one at Maltons and 'Rothmans' it up but as someone has already done it I wont bother!

Brilliant!

He's driving a 962 on the road and needs more stimulation?! Is he likely to fall asleep?!

Big lottery win - that's me with an XJR9 Jag. biggrin

I was wondering how long it would take before my favourite supercar showed up.

Anyway, wasn't this a featured video on Tuesday night? Not that I mind watching it again, I must admit. Seeing that 962 on the road makes this probably the coolest car video ever in my eyes.

It's just a fine auto - as indicated by the comments in the video about how it can be easily driven on the road.

Oh how Porsche has lost it's way.

If you believe Wiki, and with what this chap said, it's a converted Kremer-built 962K6 racer. That's only if Wiki is right though.

Amazing.

"you find yourself wanting to find the limits but you have to fight your fears to see that edge, it becomes a fight within you and thats the biggest attraction of the car"
