just seen this episode on wheeler dealers and noticed at the start that the seller told Brewer it was running 380-400 bhp with the engine upgrades.
But at the end when they had a go at a 0-60 run they got 5.9 and 6.4 secs. Im sure that the standard car with about 220 bhp could do 6.2.
I know the car was a good 20 years old nearly but 400 bhp should be faster?

The abbreviation adds at least 70 whp. Also it's widely accepted that owners have young girlfriends so their power to weight ration isn't affected too much when 'cruzin'

smile

Also Mike may know a fair bit about cars but every car he drives is WOOAHHHHH fast!

It looked a 400 brake engine from memory, someone had spent some dough on it at some point. Not easy cars to launch, especially with a paddle clutch. I wouldn't read too much into road tests of those cars when new, the vehicles tested by performance car mag and autocrat were both remapped to give better figures.

More likely he knows bugger all about them. His area of expertise in in performing very poor financial deals.

It will be interesting seeing this episode. I have no idea (obviously) what spec the engine actually is but I do know that RWD Cosworths were rather hamstrung by the old trailing arm suspension when it came to getting off the line, especially if it wasn't set up right.

The in gear acceleration would be much more telling and relevant but I doubt that's mentioned on the show!

I believe the car was currently for sale somewhere recently. Must have been a fun drive with the ditchfinders they put on it before they sold it.

Not so but many have that Power. The more Power you get the harder it is to get a fast 0-60 on a RWD Cosworth. If the 0-100 time was quoted then you would actually see if it a lot more Power than standard.
An extreme case of this is my own car. Standard car 0-60 5.8sec , 0-100 16.1sec . I own the fastestest of them all with 860bhp it was timed at 0-60 4.1sec , 0-100 6.9sec . Little improvement 0-60 but massive gains when the Power can be used. Add to this fact that Brewer aint got a clue how to drive one & the results are as expected.

its hard to hit perfect 60 times in a manual car, especially if its your car and you dont abuse it

best time i got in b5 rs4 (in stock trim) was 5.3 0-60 book was 4.9

No doubt about it the suspension front and rear on a cossie is prehistoric, look underneath an evo and you can see the difference in design and $$$ straight away. Not surprising considering the basic design dates back to 1982!

The Cossie on the show was running green injectors. IIRC, those injectors aren't good for 400hp. Mike also knows bugger all about cars. At one point during the episode, he swapped the 4-spoke steering wheel and Escort Cosworth alloys for a standard 4wd Wheel and 2wd Lattice Alloys worth much less than what he swapped it for.

Advertises a car for 4000, accepts an offer of 3500 as long as they "look after it", makes a fiver profit and says "Ah well at least another has been kept on the road!" hehe

Hence the qualification statement of 'may' wink

Am-dram at best by the look of it. No more believeable than Classic Car Rescue going to AutoFarm for it to initially pose as a bloke selling a shell!

I thought they looked like blue injectors but you might be right.

I always thought that when watching this episode. Not so much from the 0-60 times but more from the footage of seeing the car accelerating.I had a 2wd sapph many moons ago running a stage 1 on yellow injectors after i'd rebuilt the engine and it was pretty savage even by todays standards!

both my saph cossies where lightly modded, not mental power but damn quick for their time, there also 300-400kgs lighter than modern equivalents
