V8 Esprit, 45k on the clock for just south of for 13k.

What's the catch?

I thought you could only get leggy S4's for that kind of money!

Planning on getting an Esprit next year some time and was expecting to pay more like 15k minimum for a good V8 with a fair bit of haggling...

Its an early Esprit so check the liners have been sorted. Its low mileage and these have to be used. Has it been stood dormant for a while? That's when things start to seize/perish/rot. Excellent service history is a must, especially belts.

Its also the 'old' interior. The upgrade from '98 on gives more space and a more stylish interior (unless you are into the 70's retro look) and there are number of upgrades, such as brakes, anti-lock etc which came later which this one may not have.

It actually looks pretty good but get it looked at and driven by someone in the know if you are interested. And head over to The Lotus Forums to get any intel - chances are someone knows the car.

If all that is sorted, at that price, its a hell of a bargain!

Indeed, it is one of the older V8's and if it hasn't had the common issues sorted or has a patchy service history then any savings could quickly be blown by getting her 'right'.

Still it does sound promising - "Very Extensive history, very clean example inside and out, 2500 Recently spent". Nice colour too.

All my cash is tied up with a house purchase at the moment, next year I will start to look seriously and hopefully befriend a few of the Lotus club members down this way to help me out choosing the right one!

its no longer there so guessing sold.

noticed a Green one sold with a blown engine on ebay and shortly after a V8 TT engine also sold that had been hanging around a while- combined was far less than 13k

Was a yellow one I think.

Saw the add for the V8 with the blown engine, sounds like some one bagged a bargain if that's all that was wrong.

Can't see anyone letting a good V8 with service history going for less than 15k.

as i stated in a previous post, mark from Stocks coachworks had just bought that one to replace engine (saw it while mine was in). Looked great. However when it was relisted a week later I am thinking it was far more than a blown engine.
