Electric seat switch pack swap?
Discussion
Anyone know if it's possible to swap a V8V leccy seat switchpack with the plastic buttons for one with the metal buttons like on the newer cars (Rapide, Virage etc)? It looks about the same size and shape, but these things are seldom as simple as they seem!
It would be a worthwhile upgrade to the interior I think ...

Would they be difficult to get machined?
Nope. Any good tool maker could knock one up in no time. I could even do a model/drawing and CNC program if someone sends me the plastic bits they want replacing. I think they would look better anodised too as they would probably just be die sunk which leaves a bit of a s
t finish really. I looked into this when the Virage first came out. The switch pack looks the same but has different plug arrangements on the back......or at least it looks as though it does from the technical drawings. I dropped the idea at that point. I like the idea of the machined replacements though. They'd probably look better and cost less than anything AM could supply!

Why not ask the same chap that knock crankshafts out in his dinner hour.........he could probably do a few sets in his tea break I think they would look better anodised too as they would probably just be die sunk which leaves a bit of a s

I never said they took an hour

I said they wouldn't take long to machine. Turn it to rough out then grind all the important faces. Wouldn't take much to program that.
Oh and the seat things would take no time at all once a program was done.
I take it you know CNC guys that will happily take ££££ work off the machine, and chuck a few bits of alloy on at mates rates....
Where I worked our CNC's were at 100% capacity, they had to be to pay for themselves.. And we would never take on s
tty crappy one offs for some bloke who once he's got his bits you'd never see again anyway....
Small 1 off jobs just aren't worth the hassle.....

A very good place too. I used them for roughing out when we were proving out the first machining from solid method for a titanium leading edge for a fan blade.

Let me know who they are......... So I don't end up investing any money with them..
Well they're a tool maker, they don't make production parts so why would they have their CNC machines running all the time? Obviously if they're busy you go to the back of the queue and get the parts as soon as there's capacity. Usually doesn't take long as they have plenty of machines. What? How do you propose you create complex geometry on fixtures or one off parts then?
