Has anyone had any experience of using this clutch kit? http://www.clever-trevor.net/TVR/Parts_details/RV8...

It's for a standard car - any other recommendations?

Is it worth changing any other bits while the car is in the air? Release arm etc? Or is that included within the kit?

Cheers,
Phill

Ive been quoted by specialists to replace my clutch and they have based it on an AP racing kit. Is the Borg & beck one better then?

When you buy an AP Racing clutch it actually says Borg&Beck on the clutch .I can`t seem to work that one out .
If you want it to last forever buy this 340lb Torque AP clutch.

Yes there is one for 270ftLB and mine is 340Ft lb ..You don`t need to pay a premium from a TVR supplier.

Mine does not feel any stiffer than the standard 4l clutch .

You may be upgrading a few things so this one will cope with the extra power.

The 340ft lb clutch will have green paint on both the clutch plate and cover .

code numbers above ..

can send you the AP cataloge but i need your email because it a PDF.

pmanson,

I purchased the kit from John Eales, it was fitted by Jason @ STR8six. Works perfectly well for me. But if you intend to increase the engines bhp/torque then I suggest you fit an uprated unit!

Or.....you let refit your old or exchange it to one which is better and exactly made
for your car and power incl. balancing with the flywheel new spring and so on.

So like this .....

I run the John Eales uprated fast road clutch in the Tuscan racer, with no problems at all, only changed it once since 2005, and that includes having to slip the bugger out of it a couple of times when the box jammed in 3rd..

Just called him, the price is very good smile

I have a 1997 400, would the release bearing be plastic or steel.

John couldnt be sure so I need to know which one I need before I order.

I fitted a Helix clutch from Rob at V8 Developments, it's rated at 350 ft/lbs I believe which is more than enough for a standard 5.0 litre let alone a little 400.

Others have complained about the Helix being too stiff, but I don't have any issues with it whatsoever.

It's really not that much harder to disengage than the feeble thing that came out, yet it's grip is in a completely different league.

For around £300.00 it came complete, pressure plate, driven plate & a decent release bearing.

Rob also sorted me out with a lightened flywheel as it made sense to me to try & take some mass out of the bottom end at the same time as fitting the clutch.

What I wasn't prepared for was the weight of the standard flywheel when it came out, I'm pretty sure what TVR fitted to the 4.0 litre cars was a standard Rover SD1 flywheel yikes

Honestly it weighs an absolute ton (well 30lb to be precise) and IMO has no place in a 1060Kg sports car.

The one Rob sent me was just a standard flywheel with about 7lbs machined out of the back face, because if this it was a very reasonable price, I think I paid something like £70.00.

And my god you can feel it, for that money if you are replacing your clutch I'd say a lightened flywheel is an absolute no-brainer.

The engine spins up so much better, I know it hasn't really added any BHP but it sure feels like another 20HP over the standard millstone.

The other mod I would recommend is to weld a bracing support bar on the release arm so the rod cant punch its way trough the weak pressed steel arm.

If you are replacing your clutch it makes sense to do a few extras that will massively improve the feel of the car and solve a well known failure point like the release arm.

Don't let this happen nono

Take the opportunity to give it some strength while you have the chance yes

Does anyone know the diameter of the steel release bearings?
