Now that I've just about bought one and about to ship it "down under" I am finding it increasingly frustrating that even the president of the Farrari Club can't tell me how to correctly pronounce it. Is it MON DYE ARL or MON DEE ARL ? or MON DILE ?

I reckon it's MON DEE ARL.

However, since I don't own one, probably won't ever be able to afford one and don't speak Italian I may not be the best person to respond to your question. jester

It is pronounced MON-DEE-AL with AL not as Al Bundy but like a short version of "ALL".

The inflection is on the A of AL.

Depends, if you want to pronounce it like an Italian at Ferrari would, it would be MON DEE AL as above by JazzyO but with the AL like Al Bundy

Mon dee al with short L, and Ferrari without putting the accent on the e like you usually do, just a flowing, long R!

Because I'm italian...... angelbiglaugh

Good on ya Enrico ! You guys would know , you designed them and built them and what great cars they are. My son in law is of Italian extraction and he has a burning passion to own a Ducatti motorcycle. You certainly have a great automotive heritage.....matter of fact my son in law is a senior automotive engineer with Holden (GMH).I'm a POM so I should fly the flag for Rolls Royce I suppose, but instead the closest I've come is a Jaguar. Love cars but it's only over over the last couple of years I've had the finances to try some of the more upmarket European cars.....and I'm hooked. Have a Jaguar, a Mercedes and soon a Ferrari. and can't believe the reaction of friends when I mention Ferrari. They all want to see pictures of it...even my Mercedes mechanic. It seems to have magical connotations. Can't wait to drive it.

That's how i understand it. But honestly I flick between the two. Depending on what company I'm in at the time (Petrolhead or "normal" people hehe) saying 'porsher' can sound slightly pretentious when talking to the latter

Dubya is not an English letter, just a rather intellectually limited ex-President.

The Germans pronounce Porsche as "Porshah" but a very slightly rolling R, and with much less emphasis on the shah than English speaking persons use. It is a much shorter vowel. Actually, that is the same for the O.

Jeremy Clarkson uses 3 seconds to say the word Poooooh Shaaaaaah, but the Germans make it nicely succinct.

Well, I went to a classic car dealer in Kent a couple years ago, and enquired about the Mon-Dile. The impossibly smug proprietor looked puzzled, there was a bit of an awkward silence, and then he said 'Oh, you mean the mon-dee-aal'.

So, I suspect the answer is mon-dee-al. Also, I've learned that some people who sell classic cars are fat, smug, tts.

Strewth ! I think I've started World War 111. I think Cole Porter summed it up best . "Some say Mondile, some say Mondeeal...some say Mondeeal, some Mondile, Mondile, Mondeeal, Mondeel, Mondile....let's call the whole thing off" A little musical plegerism but you get the point !
