According to the service maintenance programme that came with my car the cam belt (timing belt) should be changed at 115,000 miles. The paperwork I have from the garage has a handwritten note saying , "cam belt change due at 4 years old". My car will by that time have completed about 38,000 miles. So, does anyone have any knowledge of the correct point at which the cambelt should be changed? I will obviously talk to the service manager but I'm interested to hear other peoples' experiences. My car is a SEAT Exeo ST by the way.

Thanks,

Some cars do have odd timing belt intervals; my PD golf is 4 years or 95000 miles. It just depends on the difference between use related degradation and age related degradation. Luckily I do 30k a year so my next one will be mileage not age!

When I bought my 2002 Octavia 1.9 TDI, the cambelt interval was 80,000 miles with no time limit specified. In about 2005 (I think), they decided that cambelts should also be changed at least every 4 years.

I wonder if that's what's happened for yours too if there's a handwritten note.

I did about 10,000 miles a year, so 4 years would have been 40,000. I decided to compromise between the original 80,000 and the new 4 years, and got it done at 6 years/60,000 miles.
