As the title really, I find myself drawn to a mini countryman cooper s.
But as a 50 year old male i'm a bit worried about the image, I know they are supposed to be all style over substance (are they?) and I know you should just have what you want and sod what other people think, but what's the PH opinion.

My two year old son saw a mini on a racing game and said it was a lady car.

Nuff said.

It's a girls car. Not for blokes & certainly not a good look for a 50 year old. Just not good for blokes.

I found my gf's Mini good fun to drive but yes it was girly.

It was also horrendously unreliable too to the point it went back to the dealership last week (over 10 months of ownership it spent 70+ days at the dealer!), if you buy one make sure it isn't CK60 GDX

I don't think the countryman looks paticularly girly, but I think it's ugly, and I find all mini stuff seriously overpriced for what they are.

But that's just my opinion, I don't think you can like it that much and must have a little doubt in the back of your mind despite being drawn to it.

If you really loved it you would just go for it....

The Countryman is not only chintzy and designed for women, it's a blobby, oversized mess of a car, based off a smaller but not significantly better looking car.

Regardless of which Bini you buy, they all come with an incredibly naff, tacky interior so rest assured you will get the full Bini experience. As far as driver's cars go, I doubt the ryman is the best of the lot either.

Why care what other people think?

They're cracking cars and a giggle to drive.

If you want one, buy one.

Would not really care about it having a "girlie" image or not. Always loved small cars (old Mini, Lupo, A112, Y10, A2...) most of them have a girlie image. Couldn't care less.

I just don't get the car itself, Countryman variant even less than the standard MINI. Might be good to drive, but for the money, room inside, size outside and the weight (around 1.4 tons!) I think there are better options. Part of the attraction is the image IMO, and if you have doubts about that then not sure if it is the right car.

You don't say why you need the van form factor. If you only need the room once in a while, perhaps an Abarth 500 + rented van when needed?

Good suggestion, would take an abarth 500 over an mini "s", much rarer and personally much nicer to look at in my opinion.

The 500 is another car that most would call "girly" but I wouldn't care and would drive a 500 abarth with no hesitation.

I know of two rugby players employed by the RFU as school coaches/co-ordinators who have to drive around in white Countrymans plastered with RFU stickers.

Exactly .... doesn't bother the myriad of MX5 drivers on here.

Drive the car you want.... Not what you think others should see you in

Not the car for you if you worry about what other people think.

I had a BMW MINI and loved it, still do as its with my brothers family now. The countryman is very very marmite in looks , do YOU like how it looks? If not forget it.

Personally I don't like the looks, too bloated. Sure they're fine to drive and sit in though.

I'm not a great fan of the mini - mostly ruined by when I lived in West London by Foxtons.

The ryman is just a mess.

Early MX5s are a good enough car to make it worth while, Minis are not.
