Bape x Ferrari

Very unusual. The owner of A Bathing Ape is Nigo - I remember the Pink Bugatti, he did it as soon as the Bugatti was released. Not to everyones taste, but certainly something different.
HK Retailer I.T own over 90% of BAPE and founder Nigo is now just a Creative Director. Nigo was (and still is) a DJ before BAPE kicked off. This was how he met PW. Nigo and Pharrell went in together on the crass Billionaire Boys Club label but BAPE was always the child of Nigo. Pharrell always endorses BAPE products, infact much of the success of BAPE came from collaborations with other brands, this 458 being the latest.
It's all fun/marketing and non-permanent so no harm done. It's achieved its purpose in putting the brand names around the world and into the minds it otherwise wouldn't have done, so a solid success from their point of view. These are all toys to have fun in at the end of the day, so as long as the execution and quality of the work are good then I'm all for it. The camouflage print on the Phantom, while not to everyone's taste and something the traditionalist will lose their monocle over, suits the big, bluff machine if you have the look yourself to carry it off. It's hardly a shrinking violet in standard paint
The I.T group sell a little bit more than pricey hoodies From a tiny 200sqft shop, Kar Wai built up a network in HK, Shanghai and Beijing that represents and distributes the smaller, exclusive brands that were never available on this side of the planet, before listing on the HKSE in 2005. A true world class grafter from humble beginnings, and one who manages to get some of the sweetest retail locations town, the swine! His car collection is VERY tidy too! Buying up Bape (who I believe they partnered with for their HK outlet) is no doubt part of a plan to control and flood the Chinese market with the stuff before it becomes yesterday's news.
Not entirely sure if their 458 GT3 car will be racing at the Macau GP next weekend. It would be great to see and hear it in action on the street circuit if it is.
