RE: AMG teases SLS Black Series
Friday 9th November 2012
It's been a busy year for the SLS, AMG revealing electric SLSes, 45th Anniversary racing SLSes, GT SLSes and, shortly on the AMG Facebook page, the Black Series version too. Which is probably more of interest to us than the leccy one, impressive technology or not.
AMG teases SLS Black Series
AMG's Facebook page promises online unveiling for the Black Series SLS
So the GT - watch this space for more on this shortly - brings with it a little more power, a bit more leather and some detail chassis tweaks. What does that leave for the Black Series then? We'll see shortly but going by spy shots from testing at the 'ring and a few hints on the Facebook pic we can safely assume it'll involve some fat sills, flared arches, bigger vents and - possibly - a fixed rear wing. If you're looking for hints it's probably safe to assume the GT3 race car will be a big influence on the looks, even if the quad exhausts on the test mule suggest it won't get the side exhausts. Which is a shame.
When's the cover coming off? Well, at the time of writing the image had been up 19 hours and AMG was saying 'within 24 hours' so even with our maths we'd deduce that'd be pretty soon.
Keep 'em peeled!

I like the SLS but not a fan of the Black. IMO the SLS looks good because its quite a clean design, spoilers/fins/wings ruin this.
Probably shifts a bit though....

At the new car's heart is a heavily tuned version 6.2 V8 developing 59bhp than the standard SLS AMG and 41bhp more than the recently introduced SLS AMG GT, with 622bhp delivered at 7400rpm. Torque, on the other hand, has dropped by 11lb ft over both existing gullwing models, with 468lb ft arriving at 5500rpm.
Carryovers from the GT3 racer to the Black Series road car include a larger inlet manifold, high lift camshaft, revised valve tappets, revised oil system, lighter bearings and stiffer conrods. The rev limit is raised from 7200rpm to 8000rpm.
Further engine changes centre around the exhaust system which switches from steel to titanium construction – a move AMG claims not only provides a 13kg reduction in weight and reduced back pressure but an even more striking exhaust note.
Ooh. 8kRPM and a fruitier exhaust on an engine that already sounds amazing. Rear wing optional according too.Carryovers from the GT3 racer to the Black Series road car include a larger inlet manifold, high lift camshaft, revised valve tappets, revised oil system, lighter bearings and stiffer conrods. Optional carbon fiber aero pack includes adjustable rear wing and front dive planes.
The 6.2-liter engine can now rev to 8,000 rpm and produce 622 hp (464 kW) compared to the standard SLS AMG GT with 583 hp (435 kW). Modifications include a new air intake, camshafts, improved oil and water cooling and additional pressure tweaks. The torque figure is down from 479 lb-ft (648 Nm) to 468 lb-ft (634 Nm).
Increased power and a weight reduction have slashed 0.2 seconds from the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time as the SLS AMG Black Series can do it in just 3.6 seconds, en route to a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h). The supercar is able to return 20.6 mpg UK (17 mpg US or 13.7 liters / 100 km) and has CO2 emissions of 321 g/km.

I prefer the standard SLS.
The CLK63 Black was just pefect, and the SL65 Black was fantastic too. This looks like it's a standard car with a load of carbon bolted on. Looks like it could be one of those FAB design monstrosities. Not impressed

For visual drama, I much prefer this too:
