Broke down on the A34 last night, in the process of calling the RAC as I have the all singing and dancing membership, which is peace of mind for my wife and children . . . , etc.

I was then hit by a lorry. Pretty nasty. But hey I have RAC "The Driving People" Roadside, Recovery, At Home, Onward Travel, European and last but not least Accident Care. They just did not want to know? So stranded, smashed car, cold middle of nowhere.

I asked for an explanation of what this cover is for, er filling in the paperwork oh and legal advice.

Like the no existent 'Onwards' which includes hire cars to carry on a journey - er no non available. Hmm. Holiday missed a couple of years ago.

Hmm.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

As a recommendation try AutoAid, £38 annually. You won't get the European cover though.

I can confirm they will recover your car should it find itself somewhere other than the road wink

Apparently tomorrow they are changing the service as there have been so many complaints. They need to take a leaf out of Virgin's Richard Bransons book.

When you get your car biffed, it's such a pain in the bum to sort out, all the service promises and benefits of the RAC and AXA Insurance, seem to magically disappear or be many long and on hold phone calls, followed by form filling and lots of "refer to the small print sir" "or subject to availability" which funnily bears no resemblance to the "raising the standard" "we are here for you" "committed to customer excellence" "new knights of the road" bullst - cue Rolling Stones music. Still the RAC has offered me 6 months free membership to stop my blogging. Thank Christ my children were not with me!
