Time For Tea? The Skyline is born

The unlikely story of the Nissan Skyline's first battle with Porsche

Nissan's track-based grudge match with Porsche has involved Skylines and GT-Rs of various types over the years. But this neat little video from Nissan telling the story of the first on-track encounter back in 1964 at Suzuka is a fascinating history lesson in where it all began.

Nissan's unlikely Porsche challenger is back
Nissan's unlikely Porsche challenger is back
Namely with a seemingly mis-matched battle between the very first Skyline - based on the three-box Prince saloon - and the sleek and beautiful 904 Carrera GTS. Seeing the two on the same track seems bizarre enough, that the Skyline GT was able to get anywhere near the Porsche the more so.

The full story is in the video so brew up, grab the seasonal accompaniment of your choosing and enjoy.

Enough said.

The R34 Z-Tune from 2005 is pure porn.

Saw a mint '70 (?) in Tokyo at Senso-ji, Asakusa - I believe it was actually owned by one of the priests there.

You really can't go wrong with bolt on arches, watanabe wheels and a trap lip!

Beautiful. I tried to buy a simialr Skyline at auction in Japan. Obviously there was no guide price because anything before R32s was a rarity.

It sold for approaching three million Yen, which was well over £12,000, but would be closer to to £20,000 wat the current exchange rate!

I saw a couple of others over the course of a couple of years, but didnt bother bidding...

I own two Skylines, a 1972 and a 1962. Unfortunately the 1972 version is a scaled down Hotwheels toy while the 1962 is only available to me when I play GT5. The 1962 cost quite a lot of credits on GT5 and was so slow compared to the competition I had to race against that I ended up spending another virtual fortune tuning it up!!

BTW, message to Pistonheads, for these "Time for Tea" pieces, please can you have less youtube videos because youtube is banned where I work frown

That's great, I'd love something like that in my garage. Is it wrong to like the '71 and earlier models more than the latest efforts?
