Taking my DB9 out the other day the rear parcel shelf decided to start being noisy over rough road so I decided to have a look at it. I used a 7mm socket for the bolts and a Philips driver.

1. Remove the centre panel below the sub woofer grill
2. Remove sub woofer grill
3. Undo the two bolts holding the centre panel at the front the panel has a tang just in front of the brake light which comes out as you slide it towards you

4 Remove the two rear seat backs and moved them aside leaving the belts attached
5. The centre section was then removed and the 3rd brake light wire unclipped

The parcel shelf has a large hole in it which I assume is for a sub woofer on the higher power audio and this photo shows an attempt to fix the shelf but unfortunately they forget to tighten the zip ties fully.

When the centre section is removed you are left with the two side pieces which flap around and on mine the left fixing was not even tightened fully. So to cushion the side panels and the centre panel I utilised some 22mm pipe insulation with the inside curve uppermost

Don't forget to reconnect the brake light when you put it back together.

As for adding noise I have finally got round to taking the cd changer out and sending it off for repair. Expecting it back on Monday 17th so very quick turnaround. The whole unit is being replaced preserving the optical interface to the car so no software update required.

Here is the rear of the facia with the connectors shown

They all have top locking tabs except the middle row middle connector which has one to the right (when you are fumbling around trying to disconnect it that is.

Could do with a small handed helper on this especially the heater connectors. I supported the facia with my left hand and removed the hazard switch to allow my thumb in the hole to get more stability.

I will update once the unit is returned and refitted.

Thanks for the photos SLacKer. I've got an intermittent squeak back there and you've encouraged me to have a go at it.

Well sent my cd changer off on Thursday and got it by return on Saturday. The read head had gone and as it is rather a fragile piece of kit the whole mechanism was changed for a brand new one the only thing left is the original interface to the car. It now works fully and the sound is excellent (I have the 260W system)

No problem putting the dash back together and I used some padding and felt pads where there looked like there maybe potential for noise. I have an extra connector from the same loom as the boot unlock in the centre panel. Don't know what it was meant for but it is there and I wrapped it in padding in case it started to vibrate or rattle. There isn't much sound proofing the aluminium is exposed under the trim.

These are the people http://www.centralservicescaraudio.co.uk/ a guy called Marcel.

As for the parcel shelf well peace has been restored. The whole car just feels quieter now even though I wasn't aware of the noise all the time but I reckon that the movement may have acted like a large bass speaker causing bumps in the road to be propagated in to the cabin more than they should have. If you hit the shelf with the flat of your hand it would vibrate and now it is solid.

Next is to sort out my wiper arms as they are showing some paint bubbling.

Slacker I presume your name refers to your attitude to work as it certainly does not reflect in your attitude to working on your DB9 smile

The name refers to my fondness of Mercedes SL and SLK which is why the letters are capitalised. I must admit it has another meaning which I am not fond of and if I could think of a good name I would change it.

I am going over the car and examining every minor thing (of which few remain) and where I can I am sorting them out. I have been working on cars since I was 19 and part of the ownership for me is to get my hands dirty with the car. The CD changer was one of those things I have put off because you need to take the dash apart and it is a bit fiddly to say the least but others on here have done it so that gave me the confidence.

I went out in it last Monday and the rear shelf was just playing up big time so I thought stuff it time for a fix. As I discovered someone else had tried to fix it but hadn't, I am just glad it is silent. When I drove it today I could hear a new rattle and thought I had done something wrong, it turned out to be a cd case as I had put a few cd's in to try out the changer, that was an easy fix.

Just found out that the Bluetooth option has led's on the centre console which may explain what the extra cable connector is for. I don't have Bluetooth so nothing to connect it to.
