Anyone know this Cerbera...?

Hi all!

I’m new to the forums and was hoping somebody may be able to help me… Im looking to upgrade from my Z4 to a Cerbera and was hoping someone here may have some history on the following car: Registration X52 VAY, a sage green Speed 6

Also, any specific tips of what to look for? The main items I am researching with its service dealers are evidence of any chassis work and an engine rebuild.

You're on the right track, mentioning the items in your post.

I see from the PH advert that the last service was done by STR8Six. I'd give them a call and see what history they have on the car - You'll get a frank and honest appraisal from Jason and/or Chas.

Certainly worth asking the selling garage to get it up on ramps for you so that you can have a look round the chassis yourself.

They are great cars if you choose a well maintained one!

First thing would be to call Str8 Six and ask them if they remember the car and any details they have on record.

Water temp very high too, looks like around 105....without the engine running!

6 speed? I am assuming the seller has got Speed 6 the wrong way round rather than it having a 6-speed conversion.

So much appreciated. Well spotted with the temp gauge, didn't look that closely to be honest... Do they read with the engine off or is it more likely to be the gauge itself that's faulty?

I’m planning to give STR8Six a call tomorrow so ill hopefully find out more… Very excited at the prospect of finally owning a TVR, though desperate to get the groundwork in looking for a well maintained one, so won’t be rushing into anything unless its spot on!

I think the dealer did mean speed 6 – Innocent mistake I think!

I think mine still gives a reading when it's off - but I'm not in the car when it's off very often to check

The water temp gauge on the SP6 does still give a reading when the engine is switched of, however it is high at 105, maybe the car has just returned from a drive and been idling but it shouldn't get to 105 as the fans should kick in and lower back down to below 90. It could be that the fans are not kicking in which will be an easy enough fix for the garage but worth mentioning to them. Possible issues could be leaking radiator, corroded fan terminals, faulty thermostat, water temperature sensor faulty.

The temp gauge is mechanical in the cerb via a capillarie so it will read until it is cold.

Can't speak for a S6 but mine could read that warm if sat idling as the capillary tube runs right next to the water rail near the exhaust manifold - genius planning that. Scared the bejesus out of me the first time it happened. Soon drops down when moving though.

Cerbera's look fab in Californian Sage Green. I was forever getting asked what the colour was in my Chimaera in the same colour, looks a lot better in the flesh than in photos.

Edited as just seen others have said the same but....I'd give Jason a call at Str8six if he's serviced it last and see what he has to say! If its the same one that's been on here since the summer for sale with a private guy from just outside of Henley for £11k, then its one I went to look at and the engine was in need of a refresh! It didn't pull very well and was very tappety. It had also been serviced by Jason and he remembered the car and said it needed a rebuild! I walked away! has some damage to the door catch shuts too from the door striker that is obvious from the outside too.

I saw this car - I'd second the colour, which IMHO looks fantastic on Cerbs.

My concern from the pics is the condition of the interior and, specifically, how easy (or not) it would be to sort out the loose fascia panel that's come adrift from the driver's seat-back.

Couple of screws towards the top, from memory.

Edit... From the pics, the interior looks good to me. Those seat bolsters normally wear terribly. And that steering wheel looks a hundred times better than mine, even though, I'm on my second/re trimmed one.

The interior isn't as nice in reality! It's looking worn and a horrid colour! The interior and seat backs are far less a concern to worry about on this car though believe me! I went to see it when the private seller had it on PH in the summer this year.

It is a colour that really suits the cerb though I agree!

It hasn't come adrift, the backs of the Tuscan style seats warp over time and look horrid. I had a thread running to sort mine out

So engine refurband a re-trim..... must be about £10k in all?

That wouldn't be too bad then.... For 22K & especially engine wise, it'd be in better condition than it left the factory

So I had a chat with Jason over at str8six who serviced it last month... He said the chassis is in good condition and mechanically it seems ok, though he did not do any engine work. Im hoping TVR power will help here as it has been there twice in the past with fairly big bills... One of which was for the clutch.

Toady, when you say, the interior is of far less concern, was there anything major you noticed? Thinking about making the 300 mile round trip to see at the weekend, so we shall see...
