Know I am aware that you can have a Daylight MOT, that all is required is a Horn, number plate and I think a number plate light and reflector. And dusk till dawn limitations of course.

My question is I will be fitting track fairing (as the bike will be used more on track then on the road) during the winter and spraying it the same colour as on the V5.

But as my first MOT is not due until 2014 as I bought it new in Spring 2011, so can I fit the track bodywork, remove lights headlights etc.... and use the bike on the road before the first MOT

cheers in advance

for the edit, I am more than ware most police do knot know about these rules for bike when going to bike meets with a few mates on daylight MOT and the local police asking many questions why they are being used on the road.

But I've not come across the question I have before so thought it was worth asking on here

You don't even need these.

The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989
Exemptions—General
4 - (3) Nothing in these Regulations shall require any lamp or reflector to be fitted between sunrise and sunset to–

(a)a vehicle not fitted with any front or rear position lamp,

You don't need the MOT to be legal. However, it is a lot easier to prove 'legal' to the police if you have a 'daytime' MOT.

Thanks for that, so as long as I follow the regulations it's legal but quicker and easier to get a Daylight MOT for the Police if they check

There is not and never has been a 'daytime/daylight MOT'
The tester will complete an advisory notice that lights are not fitted.
http://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_110.htm
"This inspection applies to: all machines, except those which have neither front nor rear position lamps, or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are
. only used during daylight hours, and
. not used at times of seriously reduced visibility
If this situation occurs the machine presenter should be issued with a VT32 (advisory notice) recording the above."

Motorcycle test requirements here - no mention of not being OK not to have a horn/audible warning instrument fitted:
http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/mc_contents.htm

As you have found, the majority of Police Officers are unaware of this.

I have a race faired Suzuki on the road with a daytime use advisory mot it has a bubble horn fitted with no lights and no brake lights and full expansion pipe fitted it passes every year with much merriment at the testers garage as 16 stone me turns up on a 125 two stroke race bike that is designed for midgets
And as an aside the only useable power is at about 9000 rpm and is gone by 9175 rpm so it is fun to ride.......

Nope.
Its either a full set of lights or none at all. You need to do hand signals.

I'm thinking about modifying a second tail unit with a number plate holder for my race bike so I can take it out on the road when the mood takes me so thanks for the useful links in here.

Think I'll probably have more difficulty with insurance though. Are there any known specialist insurers for track/race bikes on the road?
