Insurance ( again, sorry )
Discussion
Just had my renewal notice for my 2005 DB9 from my usual insurers. Fully comp., £650 excess, protected NCB, 5000 miles per year, wife named driver, legal protection. No convictions etc, for either of us.
£372.
Tried the meerkat website. Cheapest quote for identical cover £228-96.
I am an OAP ( just ) . Pains me to reveal that !
Is there a catch ?
If I did have a bump, could I insist that any repairs would be carried out by an Aston Martin approved body shop ?
Living in Plymouth.
Any advice please ?

Sounds a cracking deal , grab it with both hands, I doubt very much that it will cover you to have it sorted at AM. Depending on the insurer, but they normally like their own repairers. I had a little bump and they insisted that their repairer did the work. If not, then there were sanctions such as we had to pay the Excess in advance and, importantly there would be NO hire car.I am guessing that if you want to be able to take it to AM, then do AM do their own insurance? But you'd probably pay for it.
IMPORTANT - at £372.00 are you sure you're covered for everything ? There is a big debate (but very quiet) raging at the mo, that these super cheap internet quote are great for getting insurance, they take your money quick enough, but when it comes to paying out, there is a huge number of issues raised and you find yourself NOT insured. Don't really want to be driving a AM and find it not insured.
I'm with Aviva, and everytime I touch the car I email AND write to the broker and tell them, different types of tyres, different size of tyre, different exhaust etc etc When they send me the yearly detail (Schedule) I don't, "look", at the thing, I, "examine", it. I've been working with (or against - which ever way you look at it) with insurance companies for many years and I've seen them, "wriggle", at what is clearly an airtight case. But, "wriggle", they do ...........

I >think< you have the right to have your car repaired where you want, but possibly only within reason.
You have the right to have it repaired at a garage of your choice. You may not get the hire car from the insurance company, but most repair centres will include one if you ask anyway.if its part of the Admiral Group they will send it to an AM Approved Bodyshop anyway.

That's interesting. I was looking to add the Aston to my multi car policy and they were not able to confirm to me in writing that they would allow me to send the car to an AM approved body shop. The definite impression I gained was that, if not using their approved repairer, then I would have to get three quotes and then they would consider my request. So I stayed with Locktons.if its part of the Admiral Group they will send it to an AM Approved Bodyshop anyway.

Ian, I have my DB9 on my multi-car policy and Admiral confirmed verbally that in the event of a claim I could us an AM Bodyshop. Maybe I ought to get this in writing.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
