As part of our new year health regime O/H has decided we should drink more fresh fruit and veg juice and has suggested we buy a juicer. The Philips HR1861 is on offer at Amazon for £59.99 at the moment and has a lot of good reviews, is that what we should be considering?

I use a Waring one which is brilliant. Very easy to clean too which is important if you are going to be using it regularly. I got mine brand new of ebay for £90, retail is £2-300 I think.

Juicers are also great for marinades - 'juice' a load of garlic, ginger and chilly and put with meat in a ziplock bag for a few hours - amazing!

This sounds like a stunningly good way to lose muscle mass.

Could you squeeze a carrot? For example?

Powerfully built company directors with goatee beards can squeeze anything.

We have one and it works fine. Tip: don't let it sit and dry out when you finished juicing - rinse it out straight away and it's much easier and quicker to keep clean. Most of it goes through the dishwasher anyway.
