My old man had one identical to this, if only he had a crystal ball.....

Never realised that these could command top money as classic cars, prices of the P38 and L322 are crashing however.

Only worth it if someone is willing to pay it.

Quite a few 80s cars out there sitting with <50k miles and inflated price tags. For some reason they always seem to be on sale for a long time.

Exactly, or a CSK or a Velar - although that might be 2 or 3 times the price!

I had one many years ago. I struggled to shift it for a grand.

I have actually been to look at it to get a reference for my restoration of my '83 In-Vogue.

it's lovely but rather telling that its been up for sale for about 6 months now. The market suggests that it's over-priced by £10-15k but, in reality, they come up so rarely (in any condition) that its hard to tell. About 15 months ago I sold my non Vogue 1982 4-door with 87k miles, three owners and amazing originality/patina for £4k

Just looking at the pictures and on closer inspection its had work done to it. The rear arches should be matt black instead of gloss. Which I suspect has had welding done to it. Also there looks to be corrosion forming around the inside of the rear door.

It's only a few years ago that people refused them at £500.....

Dealers get something slightly out of the ordinary in terms of being a specific model, low miles or good condition and they, rather than add a little extra to the price of and average/good one they price it into the realms of fantasy, waiting for that rare customer with more money than sense, old Range Rovers have got slightly collectible but this isnt super rare, it just happens to be original and hasnt been used that much for its age, it doesnt mean it is worth what it cost new, its got beige vulgalour as well.

I would say it is worth 5 grand to an enthusiast, and that is stretching credibility, loads go through on Ebay from a few hundred quid to about three grand for a nice one, they just arent all that valuable, I think this massive overpricing is rediculous as every car I look at I put a value on, which if it is within a percentage of the asking price and other criteria match I might enquire and go and see it, but when something is so far outside the normal range I just discount it on the grounds of even with a good discount it is so far from its actual value, very common in the PH classifieds, dealers are free to advertise at whatever price they see fit but they are either deluded, optimistic or not bothered about selling.

The pre-1984 four doors are now extremely rare and well sought after by enthusiasts. Excluding this one I think I can recall three, maybe four, appearing on eBay in the last 12 months. The market is so small its hard to be too definitive on values but, having looked at it, this one would sell all day long at £10k and, with a following wind, might make £15k - especially if it was marketed in the Netherlands. They all had beige upholstery by the way and the original price of this was rather less than its current asking price (£17.5k from memory)

You're typically looking north of £50k for a roadworthy Velar

x2. It's a rare car. I agree that's it's overpriced but the early classics are really starting to go up in money. Plus it's a v cool car these days smile

Looks bloody awful, just a shiny example of what was unwanted crap 5-10 years ago. Whilst a steel wheeled seventies 2 door has a sort of appeal, 10 grand for a decent 4.4 L322 is much more like it.

The P38 makes good landfill, so I've been informed.

I don't think leather became an option until the 86 or 87 model year

I don't think I could have a Range Rover without leather... there's something I really dislike about velour!

Though, strangely, it really suits these!

I've got our RRC (1993) VGC currently for sale for 10% of that price!

Edit: looking at the other classics for sale in the classified I think we've under priced it!

It's all about spec and condition for RRCs.

As you can tell, I'm a bit of a geek on these; post a link to the ad & I'll take a guess at what it's worth!
