Anybody else old enough to remember wassisname (something like Earl Scheid, I think?) who used to advertise in the Mart with the headline, "I paint any car for £29.99"?

I see this thread has been resurrected!

Managed in the end to find a fairly idle bodyshop so I had the bonnet, boot and front wings resprayed, as well as a general "touch up" on a couple of other minor spots- Bottom of one of the doors and the rear slam panel. They also sorted out all of the trolley dings, etc I'd been meaning to look at. They sorted a pin dent on the bonnet and the stone chipping was very bad so it required lots of prep. Manager reckons they booked 30hrs on it!

£480 all in. I'm pleased...

Of course, now I start thinking "Hmm, that front bumper needs doing..." Soon!

Thanks for that reference - really took me back in a time warp! What amazed me is that after all these years - and many reorganizations - it's still going.

Thanks again, B

60 is the new 30 I believe. I'll be honest, I'm less than half a decade off completing my 6th. Still don't remember Earl Schieb though.

In case anyone wants an idea of timescales involved.

My Dad currently has a good body man working for him full time.

He can take a basket case classic weld it, beat it and fill it then spray it and re glaze inside 10 working days.

Reasonable quality blow over (not removing glass) but filler etc less than 3 days.

A friend of mine goes to Doncaster to get his car sprayed, he paid a similar price.

The paint quality is shocking, he thinks its ok though.

£1500 for a proper blow over of decent quality.
