Looks like we're going to need a new elec oven in the near future. Problem is I have no idea of which brands are decent, and which are the ones to be avoided. I would appreciate the view of the PH community on what's hot and what's ste:

AEG
Beko
Belling
Bosch
Electrolux
Essentials
Flavel
Hotpoint
Indesit
Logik
New World
Stoves
Zanussi

That's a big range of brands, what's the budget window?

Bosch Siemens and Neff are all basically the same firm. They sell reliable stuff at a reasonable price. I wouldn't look at anything else no matter how expensive or cheap.

I would think a lot are made in the same factory ... as a rule of thumb, I would go German over Italian

If I remember correctly:

AEG, Electrolux, Zanussi are the same company
Beko make Flavel
Hotpoint and indesit are the same company
Belling, new world, stoves are all owned by GDHA
Logic and essentials are cheap unbranded stuff I think. Think baumatic make essentials.

Depending on your budget I'd recommend Neff, Siemens, De Dietrich or V-Zug

This is going to seem odd, when after listing a number of problems, I recommend our Smeg oven.

We've had the element pop twice, the thermostat once, the knob (thermostat assembly thingy) once, replaced failed main oven door hinges and it is currently having a problem tripping the consumer unit when you open the door (sometimes, and this may have been caused by my heavy handedness during an earlier repair).

But, with no previous experience or knowledge, I've fixed or replaced everything on it myself. And considering the general abuse it's received at our hands (we probably don't clean it as often as we should) it does pretty well.

Will definitely look into the German brands when replacing, but the fact I know my way around it so well now means I may not be willing to leap into the unknown.

It really does depend on what is important to you, but I would take a look at Miele.

From a usability point of view, they are incredible - it heats from room temp to 180C in less than 2 minutes. Our previous De Dietrich oven used to take at least 5 minutes to heat up.

In the same boat as our 15.5 year old Zanussi that was put in by the builders has just died again and needs another £150 plus of parts.

Was hard to look at other brands after lasting that long. We have an AEG coming on Wednesday as it wasn't a lot more and looked better than the Zanussi ones and they're the same company.

15 month old Belling.

Every bllody knob on it has broken @ £6 each.

It vibrates and makes as much noise as a hovering Harrier jet.

AVOID.

15 year old Zanussi only replaced "as it was getting old".....

now our Belling we have ours for 13 years and have never had a problem with it, atthe end ofte day you could get one that someone recommends and still end up with problems ( just like cars really)

You might, though, especially after the warranty period is over.
