What is it with all these Silver / Grey BORING cars!

I counted 100+ on the M4 yesterday between J12 and J13 whilst going the other way last night. Same thing this morning.

Only Silver car would have to be a 1930's Auto Union or Merc race car otherwise buy a COLOURED car!

Why buy a silver car? Please explain as I don't get it.

Got a silver car and a silver bike.

I like it. Its shiny, and less effected by trends than any other colour.

WOuldnt have green or yellow and most shades of blue annoy me.
Used to like white but there impossible to keep clean. back isnt my cup of tea either..

Have grey at the moment.

Had black before, to hard to keep clean

Fancied red, the dark green or grey, gark green meant another 3 month wait, red was nice but may fade.

If I was buying now I'd go for the nice stratos blue...

Because whoever bought the car liked the colour.

Why does someone else having a different preference to you cause so much confusion?

It saves the manufacturers money if they send the cars out in primer!

Silver takes on a bit of colour from its surroundings, so always looks like it fits in...

The reality of the situation is, though, that "people" (other than you ) like silver cars!

Bought my (work) Eurobox as an ex-demo. They call it "Atlas Grey" or some such facetious rubbish. Actually I've just seen a graph somewhere which charted popular colours over the last 40 years, silver has been on the up for about 5-8 years IIRC. But then if you look at the range of colours you can have, it's Hobson's choice. Dull, dreary and silver's the best of the bad bunch, doesn't show the dirt too much and is pretty much incognito...

Not my first choice, you can never find it in a car park

Also look at the car adverts.

Just about all of them recently (apart from a few - RX8 for one) are promoted with silver cars.

Buyers look at advert and say "ooh want that".

Is it the car producers driving the colours or the buyers?

Do Fleet Managers just buy Silver ones 'cos they are easy to sell on?

See also here

I think it was The Times that had the graph in that I was thinking of - can't see it on line though.

I'm on my fourth silver car, but fancy green next time.

Silver suits most cars and makes them look a bit bigger I think.

I don't know the answer really, but silver grey cars do seem to be very popular now, which makes them very ordinary, and that would tend to put me off buying one.

Our 406 is China Blue which I think looks very nice on a sunny day if the car is clean and shiny. Having said that, there also seem to be quite a few about with that colour, so it's not that distinctive after all. Still looks nice though - at least I think so.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I'm not convinced buying a Silver car is as boring as counting them on the motorway!

Its the current trend, I suppose.

Metallic Green is also quite popular but dying out a bit now.

10 years ago, Green was rock hard to sell as it was perceived as unlucky. Then British Racing Green became popular and people started buying it.

My current Audi is silver and although I used to think silver looked bland, I think it suits my car very well.
