Hi

Having recently got a friends Cerb started after 2 years standing he wants to take it for an MOT but is convinced the brakes are shot, suspecting the servo to be at fault.

Does anybody know if the servo is a mainstream item i.e. used by Ford or Vauxhall as he has been quoted some silly money for a replacement.

On my Chim I believe its a fiesta item (or similar) so relatively cheap and easy to get hold of but I have little experience of the Cerb.

The car has only done 18K from new (1998) so I'm not convinced, but I told him I would post up a question here and see what comes back......

Many thankswavey

what makes him think its knackered??

servos are usually really robust and its more usual that calipers are seized or hoses are damaged

Be very careful with the bleed nipples, only use a socket with a T handle if you suspect they are seized.

As Scotty says, the brake servos were fitted to all Mk3 Fiestas, apart from maybe the most sporty models. The same servo was fitted to the S Series, Chimaera and Griffith. The part numbers are:
OE 1666345
Girling 4110328
TRW PSA 328

Oh and the prices have shot up drastically since they were discontinued by Ford in October 2011.

The master cylinder including plastic brake fluid reservoir and pressure regulating valves (you don’t need those, but they are easy to remove)::
OE 7117259
Girling 4006247
TRW PMH 247
Apec MCY 321

Master cylinder including plastic reservoir only
OE 7117260
Girling 4006246
TRW PMH 246
Apec MCY 301

Master cylinder only:
OE 6170668
Girling 4006368
TRW PMH 368
Apec MCY 302

That's brilliant. Thanks

I'll check calipers first then move on to brake lines and servo.
