Renaultsport Clio 200 price confirmed

£18,995 starting price confirmed for new Renaultsport Clio

After months of waiting, prices have at long last been released for the new Clio Renaultsport 200 Turbo. And the good news is it’s going to be rather cheaper than previously thought.

The basic 200 Turbo will cost £18,995 when it hits these shores in June, with order books opening on April 8. Standard spec will include air conditioning, a touchscreen sat nav system with Bluetooth, electric mirrors, keyless start and entry, and Renaultsport front seats. The Lux version, which will add an upgraded sound system, auto lights and wipers, climate control and electric, tinted rear windows, will cost £19,995.

The pricing pitches the standard Clio R.S. £2,000 above the Ford Fiesta ST, though it’ll also come in £1,055 below the similarly-dual-clutch-equipped Polo GTI, and just £100 above its chief rival, Peugeot’s 208 GTI.

Both models will get a standard six-speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) transmission that, Renault says, includes the first sub-supercar multi-change-down function (in other words, it’ll be able to block change). Also standard will be the R.S. Drive system, offering three modes that’ll alter engine, throttle, steering and ESC mapping, as well as launch control and fully-disconnectable ESC and ASR traction control. Hydraulic compression stops in the dampers – usually the preserve of rally cars – will be teamed with stiffer anti-roll bars and bigger brakes, as well as the ‘R.S. Diff’, Renault’s new electronic differential system.

We’ll be able to bring you a full run-down on the new car very soon. Indeed, as we speak Chris Harris on the launch driving it, and he’ll soon be able to tell us whether Patrice Ratti’ssuggestion that our opinions on the EDC system would change once we’d driven it have any truth to them.

I would get the ST at £16995 and no options needed either on the ST.

After factoring in the likely discounts, probably even cheaper than this.

Before all the haters start typing, despite the looks, 5 doors, dual clutch etc etc, Renaultsport will not let us down!

People say the Fiesta ST isn't a nice looking car with the Aston front end, but this Clio is hideous!

So not £21k then like the anti-renault club were spouting not long ago on this very forum.

So its £2k more than a Fiesta ST, but has 2 extra doors, its an "auto" of sorts, looks better to my eyes, they are neither great but the fiesta looks like a basking shark, and the Renault has more power, seems fair to me.

All obvious downsides, yes, but surely the Renault must have a trick in it's sleeve. Though this has been looking less and less likely ever since the car was announced.

Dropped into a dealer today that made an early offer of 16,999 on an ST2 (yes, ST2) with an option pack that included red calipers etc. He said he would make nothing on this other than to make his figures!? Mad. I may well go for an ST2 Fiesta as a result wink

£15,000 in 2002 when the 172 was at its height is £19,500 today.

Yes you are getting old.

Strange as I think the front of the Fiesta is perfectly ok.

Fair points although the Fiesta appears to be 116kgs lighter than the Clio, plus has an overboost.

I guess 5-dr, bigger brakes and a (presumably) heavier tranny all add kgs.

Really good of Renault to keep it as £19k and you even get a sat nav.

Given the extra equipment and rear doors over the Fiesta it doesn't seem too expensive, but a more stripped out verion at a lower price would be appealing.
