Spiral 4 - Broadchurch 0
Discussion
Did no one else watch Spiral on BBC4? I'm stuck in an office on my own but Mrs Targa works with loads of like minded people at her place and also reports a surprising lack of interest.
It was really good French drama with complex interwoven plot lines and interesting characters, held the interest over 12 episodes and showed up the home grown nonsense.
I watched that Broadchurch this week. Similar moody Police drama? No way, a rep company of actors who we have seen again and again and by the time we got to episode 2 we had some "Wooooo". Where is the english "Killing"?

Couldn't agree more about Spiral. That's it isn't it 12 of 12 episodes but catch up on Iplayer.
Even Judge Roban has a heart - a great character, and the babes are ....well Babes. Wish my french was up to it but I've been glued to it, and in my mind teh very best of TV. Not even watched Broad whatsit..
Don't you think Spiral 5 is already being planned ?
The terrorist got away ( until next time ? ) and plenty of opportunity for even more character development.

According to the link below they started writing season 5 whilst season 4 was being filmed. http://www.spoilertv.com/2012/12/engrenages-spiral...
Next week seems to be a German film - Das letzte Schweigen - The Silence

I wouldn't dream of comparing them.
Spiral's grown on me - It seemed horribly self conscious in Series 1 with very mannered performances (especially from the main police characters, Maitre Karlsson and Judge Roban), but it's settled down and is quite enjoyable and believable now. Although their new boss in the latest series took hamming to a new level.
It's not a patch on Braquo in my opinion, but that's a different kind of series.
Broadchurch is about a claustrophobic little town and the effect on the residents there and how their secrets and lives unravel due to the murder of a child. Closest comparison is the first series of the Killing, rather than the French Law & Order which is Spiral.
I'm enjoying Broadchurch, although I'm hoping Tennant's character is more than just moody overacting. So far, he's by far the worst thing about it.

I bought the Spiral DVD and gave up because the subtitles were st. I can't remember why exactly, but possibly they were built in rather than rendered by the player, and thus were graphically hideous things. Anyone else had this?
I should give it another go really, especially if it's on iPlayer.

Also enjoying Broadchurch at the moment.
I'm not really. We were given the obvious hints of who is a good 'un or bad 'un in episode 1 and two, and it doesn't feel like it has really progressed from there. Love the shots of West Bay though.
And agree about last nights - didn't really move things on much.
Not sure it needs as many episodes as its been given - could probabaly have been done in three.

It is a bit slow but strangely 'watchable' at the same time, enjoying it more than I thought I would and firmly believe the vicar did it!And agree about last nights - didn't really move things on much.

Most coastal shots are around West Bay, and some in nearby Bridport in Dorset, some of the village shots and landscape shots are I believe are around Clevedon, Somerset. And agree about last nights - didn't really move things on much.

My mother in law lives in Bridport, which is a great place to stay. Mrs P and I have been figuring out whether it's a place we could move there permanently, then all I need is a boat, a few crab pots and a fishing rod, and an cheap supply of scrumpy adn I'll be happy!
