RE: Jaguar XJR revealed
Thursday 21st March 2013
Jaguar has revealed its latest XJR, which will be launched officially at the New York Motor Show.
Jaguar XJR revealed
550hp super-saloon launched as flagship Jaguar model
The new XJR will be powered by the same 550hp 5.0-litre supercharged V8 as the new XFR-S. That means the new car will boast a whopping 155hp more than the previous X358 model. It should also mean a torque figure of 502lb ft, a 0-62mph time somewhere around the five-second mark, and a top speed pegged at 186mph or just shy. It’ll also feature, says Jaguar, “bespoke chassis and aerodynamic developments” – more of which should be revealed at a later date. Jaguar is, nevertheless, promising the most focused, agile and responsive Jaguar XJ ever made.
We’ll have more information for you as wraps are taken off the XJR next Wednesday. In the meantime, we’ll be busy pondering the fantastic value that second-hand XJRs can offer. How’s about a worry-free 2000-model X308, featuring the later steel tensioners and non-Nikasil V8 engine? It’s in a tasteful combo of Pacific Blue over oatmeal, and has all the history you could ever want. Under £7,000 for this X350, meanwhile, seems like remarkable value, though there’s no mention of history which could be a reason for that. Although pricier, this example with its full history, plus a few choice options including touchscreen sat nav and 20” wheels, could be a safer bet.

How much will this cost? £100k?
Shame that they have gone from Circa £50k in the mid to late ninties to this.
Granted the XJ was more of a 5 series rival back then?
Looks good. Loved both the 6 cylinder and V8 X308 cars. Odd maybe, as I'm 27. Grandfather had a V8 and dad test drove a six, still remeber the supercharger whine!

I've not seen the intro with the XK with the bubble canopy on it before:

The supercharger whine is a bit over the top. But you could invade entire foreign countries with that sound! Now Jaguar. About that four wheel drive transmission system you have developed, and the estate chassis. Come on, you have to!
I have always been a big fan of the gentleman bruiser Jags, ever since I was a little kid and saw Steed's car in The Avengers. Less so of the more mainstream machines.

£50K in 1995 is approximatley £78,000 today after inflation. And that was with six cylinders, 5 speed auto box, a steel body and little more than a tape deck, wood, A/C, cruise and leather.Shame that they have gone from Circa £50k in the mid to late ninties to this.

This is approaching £100,000 maybe, but has a LOT more tech and fancy materials, and is faster. Billy bargain, comparatively...
I have a black 98 XJR just like the one shown...
No joke...Ultra reliable & then some & is really fast..
Let's remember one thing...My car is 15 years old (drives like new) & does 0 to 60 in 5.1 secs..
The new one does it in around 5...Well..Try saying 0 to 60 in 0.1 secs !
If you don't grudge the petrol, the 98 model XJR for me is one of the nicest looking cars on the planet !
I am bias...By the way, the new XJR won't be exactly doing 50 MPG anyway !
