Today I took my V70 into Hildenborough Volvo to have the daytime light function disabled.

This is because as the days get lighter (no really, they do, it's just the snow makes it seem darker still) I feel less obvious driving on sidelights than the bright xenons. But keep leaving the dratted sidelights on when parked...also we're off to France over Easter so I can keep a lower profile slinking about sans luminaires, perhaps. (Did you know the fine for not carrying the breathalyser has been postponed?)

So I'm delighted that t'garage can de-activate that function (£44.91 plus VAT) through a software intervention on models up to 2003/4 (facelift?).

Whilst there, they carried out a 38 point 'health check' free of charge. They found one missing bolt under the bonnet, headlamp wash/wipe blades split (no problem), and the brake fluid will need replacing soon.

Other than that, nothing!

Happy days...

I had mine turned off on my 2006 S60. It is annoying though, that you have to pay to have it deactivated when on the old model, you could do it yourself with a small screwdriver.

On the P1 70 series, if you look at the headlight switch, there is a small screw alongside the switch. Turn it to the required setting.

My 1996 model 850 also had the screw thingy - but it didn't turn them off, only allowed you to select headlights to come on as well as sidelights...

I had someone with VIDA change this on my 2003 V70 as I was fed up with the HID lights coming on every time the car did. Those bulbs and ignitor things are too expensive to piss away with lighting them up and having them burning in the bright sunshine!
