I dropped my iphone flat on its screen and it shattered!
My local phone repaired wants 50 quid to do it. I know a bit about pc's and electronics so i've decided to do it myself. Buf when browsing ebay i find some products are confusing, what part do i actually need?!
And also, ive saw some "digitalizers" where the lens is clear, and some where its black; whats the difference?

I know it's tempting to do it yourself, but honestly, pay the £50 and be done with it. Make sure you get a warranty with that though. Screens are a bh to replace (I'm guessing it's a 4 or 4S for that price)? A 5 would be more. The parts are about £18 but for the extra £32 you'll be getting a proper job done and with a warranty.

What he said! I replaced the screen on my 4S a couple of weeks ago, it's a very tricky and time consuming job. I managed to do it all and put it back together ok, but for some reason the rear camera stopped working. I've taken it apart again, but I can't see anything I've done wrong or missed, so for the extra money I'd pay someone else to do it if I had to chose again!

Did you use a clear screen or one with a black lens?

I'd also pay the £50 to get it replaced. It's not too difficult to do yourself but you'll need a couple of tools and the part itself. Avoid the hassle and pay up, the difference isn't that great.

This is what I used http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0064LIBPA/ref=...

The rear camera failing seems to be a problem when replacing the screen, wasn't something I was aware of until after I'd done it!

The thing i'm concerned about is the window in the middle, like how this one is completely clear : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-Black-Screen...

would that make a difference?

I'm not sure that's the same thing, I think that's just the glass (with the touch sensitive bit in the glass). Whereas what I linked to had the actual screen display included as well.

I think they are glued on, the black one must have the LCD screen with it too then. That's the one ill go for.

These are a good company to deal with.

If you fancy a bit of DIY then there are You Tube vids for replacing parts imbedded in the section of the parts you want to replace.

yes The AMOLED screens are bloody expensive and nobody else seems to be capable of producing them.

Worse thing is that my screen has cracked around the home button...but they (O2 warranty peeps) keep denying that their phone could be in anyway faulty ...

I'm at a loss what to do next...

Go to the carphonewarehouse to request a repair. Make sure they actually look up the price of replacing a screen on their computer systems rather than blurting out a random price off the tops of their heads. You should find the price comes in at £79.99 to do a screen repair.
