Hi all,
first post so be gentle. After trying the search and getting no responses . . . I have an A4 B5 whose interior lights are not triggered by opening the doors.
Opening the drivers door lights the footwell lights and the safety light in the door but not the central lights. These can be switched on using the 1/0 switch in the roof. The door is shown as opening on the dashboard display. None of the doors illuminates the central lights.
The alarms arms and disarms correctly and works as normal.
Any ideas?
fwiw it is an avant but I suspect this makes no difference

thanks

Is the switch in the right position, it should have 3 positions, 0/doors/1?

Have you checked the lamp works, and the lamp holder is getting current?

Secondly, is there a switch between the door and door frame, if so is this working.

Any fuses you should check?

If it can be switched on by the switch in the roof, what happens if you leave them on, then close the door.

lamps all work if manually switched on. I have not checked any fuses or for current as they work in this way.

I assume the door open/close sensor is working as footwell and door safety lights light when door opened, and the door is shown as open on the dashboard (and this cancels when door is closed).

If I switch the lights on, if I close the door they stay on, even after locking using the remote.

As the lights get switched on/off during the remote unlock/lock sequence I'm starting to suspect the alarm.

thanks

Same behaviour from the passenger door?

Sounds like it could be a central comfort module issue. Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins and see if that helps. It does on Golfs of the same vintage which display odd unlocking/locking behaviour.

Thanks SuperchargedVr6, I'll try it, I assume that Audi ice doesn't need a code as I don't have it.

After a brief chat with the local Audi dealership my radio does have a code and they want £35 and my car to find it out, so I am not disconnecting the battery. I have had a look at the fuse diagram in the handbook and it makes no mention of a 'comfort unit', but I'll pull the fuse on the central locking and see what happens.

Comfort module on these is in the passenger kick plate area and susceptible to water ingress, unplugging it and checking that would be better than pulling fuses

Found the central locking pump and it looks fine, no water damage at at all, unplugged it from car, and reconnected it but no difference, still no interior lights.
Hmm, still confused by this

Obviously nothing wrong with the interior lights as they can be switched on manually. Since they don't come on when opening any door I would say its unlikely to be door to interior lights. I would suggest you check for main inward power supply to the door catches
