1200hp Audi Coupe (well to start with)
Discussion
Those who remember my last thread will recall that I wrote off my Monaro VXR at Santa Pod

While the shell was bent, the mechanicals were fine. The car was stripped and a new set of wheels sourced. John Sleath's Street Eliminator Audi 80 coupe is famous for being the first street legal car to break into the sevens on the standing quarter. That's 0-192.99mph in 7.68 seconds (on 98-ron petrol and street legal tyres), which is brutally fast by any standard. John sold me the rolling shell, gearbox, turbos, charge-cooler, etc. The 502cu BBC engine is currently 'resting' while John focusses on his diesel drag truck.
From the outside the car looks pretty standard. Assuming you can ignore the wheels and tail-wing.

Closer up is a different story. The front end unclips to reveal a tube frame, loads of radiators and a pair of 82mm turbos. The engine mounts a long way back, into the cabin. This puts the driver's seat a lot further back than before. Being 'tagged' at 7.5 seconds means it has a funny car cage inside the roll cage, so getting in is a struggle.

While my 427cu engine pushed 1206hp at 17.5psi, we only had the chance to run 12psi before the car was no more. This was with 66mm turbos, which spooled fairly quickly. Spooling the 82mm turbos will be a challenge, so we're not targetting anything more than 1200hp to start with. With a bit more experience under my belt and plenty of test runs the boost will go up. I'm not sure how far I'll be able to take it on pump gas. 1400hp is certainly achievable, as I know of a SBC that's already pushed that sort of power.
Yes, the car will remain street legal. Mind you, how useful an 8-second car is on the road is another question. I'm hoping that the car will make it to York Raceway for the early May bank holiday. John and I will be testing it, so expect some fast runs and some slow runs (with L-plates).
Here's the sort of thing I have in mind when it's all sorted: A picture of me popping to the shops (one day):

Epic
I remember reading about that car in EVO mag a while back.
I remember reading that article too, IIRC it was Fifth Gear's Jonny Smith who wrote it. Look forward to seeing more updates on this car, also I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see more of a diesel drag truck
I remember reading about that car in EVO mag a while back.Having turbos gives you a bit of wiggle room when driving round town. Trouble comes when the boost kicks in and and extra 500hp arrives in your lap. Then it feels like the hand of God has reached down to pull you all over the place. This happened a few times on the old set-up, when I inadvertently kicked-down with a light jab of the pedal. The new set-up is manual shift only, so will be must easier to manage.

82mm turbos for a 427? fooking hell they are big! lol Thats probably enough turbos for 2000bhp.
Have you got any more pics of the engine bay?
I've no doubt it would do 2000bhp on race fuel. A similarly specified 400cu version of my engine equipped with twin 70mm (ish) turbos made exactly that a few years ago in the States. I'd be happy with 1400hp on pump gas, as that would give me 1000bhp per ton Have you got any more pics of the engine bay?

I'll take pictures of the engine bay next time I'm at the workshop (couple of weeks).
