bmw 1 series parking sensor fault

hi all, i have a problem with my parking sensors. 118d 2005.

symptoms and info.

reversing lights work.
no beeping whatsoever when in reverse close to an object.
can't hear any kind of clicking from any sensors when up close and personal with them.

i have an OBD reader but it's supposed to be a VAG one. i wonder if it's worth trying anyway? i don't want to blow anything up

any ideas please?

This is ringing bells that water can collect in / under the boot where the PDC ECU is and flood / short it.

I'd whip up the boot lining and have a poke around - see if anything looks wet.

Any warnings on your dash?
