Maserati Granturismo alarm and immobiliser
Discussion
Well I pick up my new car on Friday - a GTS in black with the usual options
I'm insured with Direct Line, and they insist on seeing evidence that the car has an immobiliser, otherwise the insurance is invalid.
What alarm/immobiliser is fitted to a GTS? Apparently "Maserati Alarm" is not one of the options on his list...
Aside from figuring out the exact model, has anyone else faced this problem about proof of installation and what evidence were you able to provide?
It also has NavTrak, so I might as well provide the details at the same time. Again, is there a specific model I need to know about? When I was looking at insurance on confused.com it listed two different types of Navtrak, but I can't recall what these were now. Certainly it didn't just say NavTrak ADR which is all I thought it was called. Do I need to pay a subscription for this or is it an all-inclusive thing?
Sorry for the questions but I don't have the manuals yet and google didn't help much.

NavTrak is subscription based, about £300 I think.
May be cheaper to change insurer than pay the subscription though - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=816...
Can't help on the alarm make - quick call to the dealer?

I think most insurers for cars such as this look for something like Navtrack, certainly been my experience.
As for the alarm it is factory fitted and part of the car, can't really see the insurers problem, perhaps point him to the specs for the car showing it is factory fitted? I have never been asked for proof, simply that an alarm is fitted. Suspect this is simply a broker who hasn't got a clue what he is doing, it is ultimately your responsibility to provide truthful answers to their questions, if you don't your insurance would be void so can't see what his problem is really. Maybe try another insurer, plenty of good deals out there.
Oh and many congrats on the car, absolutely love mine!!

IIRC, ADR (automatic detect and retrieve) is that sort of money - this is when they call you if the car moves and doesnt have the fob on the driver. I think there is just a simple NavTrack too, which is less.
Last year, I got quotes with and without ADR as I think its dear for what it is. As long as the car is garaged, lots of insurers weren't too fussed about the tracker and having one didnt make the insurance £300 cheaper.

I assumed NavTrak was straight from the factory, I've got a couple of credit card sized 'senders' so the car knows it's me - 2006 GranSport - so guessed the next model up would have the ADR as standard, no?
Yep, that's the one. If you subscribe, NavTrak will send out some smaller 'senders' in place of the credit card sized ones - bit easier on the pocked!I *think* later cars used the same system, though I am not 100%. I believe they are factory fit as standard on the GranSport, but can be disabled (to stop battery drain).
Thanks for the replies.
DirectLine have changed their position today - I will definitely be insured for the drive home, regardless of the immobiliser proof, but I will not be insured for theft until they receive something in writing. This at least makes more sense. The dealer is going to send a fax on headed paper which will hopefully be sufficient but we shall see. They still can't identify the make and model, so I'll have to hope that "standard factory fit" is enough for them. Today's chap said it would, last night's said it wouldn't.... don't you just love call centres.
Interestingly they didn't offer a discount at all for enabling the tracker. Another insurer I spoke to offered a whole £2 discount for the tracker, so there doesn't seem to be much incentive here to get it enabled.

Well the fax from the dealer wasn't enough and Direct Line have written back reminding me I'm uninsured for theft still because "the letter doesn't specify the make and model of the immobiliser".
Looks like I'll be changing insurers then!
How odd. I've never been asked anything more when stating "manufacturer fitted".Looks like I'll be changing insurers then!
