Left - Right hand drive Headlight Conversion
Discussion
I bought my RHD 991 here in the UK and will be driving over to Europe next month. Consequently I have looked at the manual about how to convert the headlights to suit the LHD traffic in Europe. I don't have PDLS so it will be a manual switch involving removing the headlights. In my manual it's in Page. 233.
However I could not figure out where is the switch after removing the headlights, then the 4 screws and the cover. I have studied the picture in details but still couldn't work it out.
Has anyone done this successfully and can give me some hints?
Thank!
Kenny

Still haven't got pictures of the inside of the headlights but I have been to the OPC. Spoke to the technician in charge and looked at the headlights together. He doesn't know how to change the lights either and the picture in the manual doesn't seem to help.
He's in the process of investigating further and will report back.
Has anyone done this successfully in a 991?

I've just done this on my 997 this evening and it was not obvious when comparing the headlight with the hand book the only lever I could find was on the opposite side to the T O markings and not where indicated in the book sounds like 991 is similar. I'll try to access a 991 hand book tomorrow to see if it compares with mine
A follow up to this on the 991.
The technicians at my OPC apparently did further investigations of this matter and now tells me that in fact for cars without PDLS there is NO MANUAL way of switching the headlights between LEFT and RIGHT hand drive (ie for going to Europe). Therefore the Driver's Manual Page 233 is WRONG.
The only way to do this is to bring the car into the OPC and they will plug their computer in to change it for you - at a cost.
Cars with PDLS can be switched in the dash from what I understood.
Can anyone confirm that what I'm told by my OPC is correct? It's disappointing that the Driver's Manual is WRONG and there is not erratum issued.

Doesn't sound true to me.
I did my lights this month on a 997, and the manual is useless for trying to locate the T and L markings. I was expecting them to be very obvious, but they really aren't so you kind need to look past the first box of tricks on the light and further inside the unit. That's a terrible explanation, I know, but that's how I found mine.

Mine were set to 'T' when I first swapped them before going to France so I always assumed that 'O' was for driving on the right-hand side of the road.
The manual isn't specific about which is which either.
Also, I expect that 'O' and 'T' stand for something in German so again that's not very helpful.
May I ask where you found your information?

Hi I'm a newbie to this post. I recently purchased a 2009 997 from Germany. Can you please explain how to convert the headlights to UK standards ? Thanks

That's certainly a good description from my experience of the 997.I did my lights this month on a 997, and the manual is useless for trying to locate the T and L markings. I'd be amazed if the lights can't be changed manually on a 991 without a visit to the dealer.
IF the 991 standard bi-xenons are the 'same' (fundamentally as obviously they are a different stylistic design) as the the 981 ones (ie both non PDLS) then they dip symmetrically - a horizontal dip as opposed to an assymetric dip. Consequently, there is no beam alignment facility, or alteration requirement, for left or right hand drive vehicles as the beam patterns are identical.
Does anyone have any experience with compliance to the UK rear fog lights? My fog light is on the left and I'm not sure if this needs to be disconnected and I need to purchase a new rear lamp for the right side that includes a fog lamp.
Has anyone experience in this area? Is is easy to convert?
Thanks for your advice
