In the last 20 years or so, my list is fairly small.

I have the CGT on it, along with the 996RS/GT3, the 4.0 RS, the Stradale, Scuderia and 599GTO and then pretty much anything made by Pagani and of course the Veyron.

I can't include any lambo, nor any aston or lotus.

Any advances ?

Why no Lotuses? Not even Exige S1 or 340R? S1 Exiges have pretty much doubled in value in the last 5 or so years.

How about the BMW E46 M3 CSL and, perhaps, the E90 M3 GTS?

The basic criteria would seem to be limited build numbers, and at least one of; excellent driving dynamics, something special about the looks and/or construction that sets it apart from lesser models, and that it cannot easily be replicated. All IMO, of course.

Ferrari 550 for sure, have been going up in value for a few years now, in fact the same's true for the 355.

968 Club Sport (but you knew that already) - same for 993 RS and GT2, 996 GT2, not forgetting the GT1 too.

Lotus Carlton, Alfa Romeo SZ (both slightly outside 20 years though), Lancia Delta Integrale, Alfa 8C, Koenigsegg (sp?), Lexus LFA, Escort Cosworth. Bound to be loads more, look forward to reading them all.

996 GT2 mk2. Check my post. Also probably the Diablo if you have the right model.

No Astons?

One-77 aside, as that's in Veyron or Pagani territory anyway, I'd suggest the previous Vanquish is in with a shout. The last of the hand built Astons, the James Bond connection and the first foray into their new current design language. The Vanquish S in particular seems to be bearing that out.

I'd love to say the 996 Turbo (ahem!). Whilst it will certainly become a classic as the 911 Turbos are iconic cars, I don't believe it will become particularly collectable simply due to the numbers built.

7.2 3.8 RS - last of the Mezger-powered, last of the manuals, very low build production, Porsche at it's ultimate finest?

I think you have to separate the genuine 'blue chip' collectables, from the merely 'enthusiast toys'.

Something like an E30 or E46 CSL M3 or a 968CS or a 997 SC, etc, might acquire an enthusiastic following, and be remembered as interesting cars of their era, but they'll never be in the serious league. Think the OP is discussing cars that can headline at Goodwood or Pebble Beach.

The title mentions special, collectible or future classics. Not necessarily blue chip, pebble beach cars

+1 for the Carrera GT

....suggest these are currently under valued. The emotions stirred by that epic V10 ? Epic.

An incredible feat of mechanical engineering, constricted to the highest standards, and a pure analogue driving experience to boot. No digital/hybrid/closed-loop/nanny state nonsense ;-)
