Hi guys,

I have just dropped a line to Lamborghini Birmingham, to arrange a test drive of an Aventador, but I have a feeling I'm going to like it so before I go and get lured into purchasing the first car I see I wanted to ask a few questions if I may ... As other than classified searches and the like, I don't know very much about the cars at all.

According to the countless reviews I have watched online, and articles I've read, they all refer to a list price of around £240k (exc options I assume) .... But even used cars are starting in the classifieds at around £265-270.

Is this simply due to the waiting lists on new cars?

Does anyone know what the waiting time would be for a new car, coupe or roadster?

Are there any "must have options" ?

Any general hints / tips / advice current or previous owners can advise me about these cars?

The car they have in stock is below, any good spec wise?

some of the new carbon options look fantastic so check those out! the car looks good in any colour and prices on coupe's are softening due to the roadster arriving shortly.

you may even be able to push for some discount on a coupe

The £240k was the original launch price. The coupe has gone up £11k since launch. Plus there are those nice expensive options. Realistic (not OTT) OTR is £270-280k. The carbon fibre options add a lot on top of that.

I would suggest that you try a MY2013 aventador - which has a number of changes from the launch edition. These include changes to the suspension, changes to the gearbox software - and if you are really lucky you can get the factory software updates for the exhaust, Engine management (increases power by 8%) - and you get lots and lots and lots of blue flames!

Plus - dont forget the roadster wheels - which look amazing.

Just my two penneth.

I also believe that the allocation to the UK has been reduced - so this may well have an effect on the prices.

oh - hell - just buy one!

Brilliant!

I've got a mate who doesn't even sell the old one when he wants a change, just buys the next one and sticks it in his collection. 2 lambos, 6 porches, a Ferrari, an MP4 I think.. Some of them even go UP in value for holding onto.

I know someone who was offered a blue aventador about four months ago at list or just under that was a cancelled order. I expect early cars to drop sharply to 210k mark on a private sale by he end of he year judging by the current market.

I wouldn't hold you breath! You might need to save up a bit more as fewer are being produced owing to the roadster production.

Great answer Rods ... I assume you didn't have any issue with the car?

Testimony enough that you swapped it or another I suppose.

Just a little to the left.

Ah no, in fact budge the engine over to the right.
Either way, that hurts!
My insidious poverty has been preventing me from purchasing, but now I have a proper reason!

As a matter of interest why is the engine slightly off-centre? I assume it's something to do with packaging but it does look a little odd.

The engine is "slightly" slanted - to help with lowering the mass.

Slanting the engine would not reduce mass just move the mass from one place to another. It is slanted to compensate for weight from the driveshaft on the right (as viewed from the rear).
