E46 wind noise - wing mirror.

Currently own a 320d saloon, 2004.

I know the e46 is a bit of a tt when it comes to wind noise, but all across the internet people seem to have different problems at different speeds.

Anyway, mine is the drivers door mirror, at any speed over 10mph (which is fking annoying).

I know its the mirror because the noise stops when i fold it in. When i put my hand across the bottom part of the mirror, where it joins the body, the noise stops (pretty much obstructing the air flow through the green arrow below)

This makes me think those little lumps on mirror covers on later models (as in the pic) wont fix the problem. I cant see any gap or hole where it meets the body, and suspect it is actually a design flaw, with wind rushing through the bit below with the arrow:

and i might just have to live with it, but if anyone knows a solution, it will be appreciated.

Are the m3 wing mirrors any different or what about an aftermarket wing mirror if it annoys you ?
