Hi All,

I was hoping for your thoughts on which 911 to go for. I am still deciding between a 911, XFR and C63 but having been out of my 996 C2 for a few years now I have hankered to get back into one.

I have test driven both and the Turbo excites me I think because its a 911 turbo and damn fast but not sure I would miss the PSE. Also I would have to go for an older one to fit into budget (early £40's) and there arent that many manual's around that price range.

The 997 Gen 2 C2S would be a newer/nicer place to be, could get an 09 in my budget, can fit a PSE (if it doesnt have one) and isnt exactly slow.

So would I spend all my time in my newer shinier 911 wishing I was in a Turbo? Is £43K ish too much to spend on a 9 year old car? In an ideal world I would go for a newer Turbo but budget just wont allow for it.

So if it was your money which would you go for and why?

Cheers!

I was in the same position a few weeks ago - I bought a low mileage 997 TT with ceramics - I'll do a couple of track days and you need that power once in a while - its addictive !!

I bought at low £40's as well for an early 2007 vehicle.

Both good, but the 997 Turbo is a 'flagship' model, with supercar performance, and always will be. IMO, it has more presence and awesome all-weather capabilities.

Different purposes.

When you drive them you will immediately know.

I would go for gen 2 C4S pdk as I like NA engine, sound and power delivery. I also found it more fun at slower speeds.

I think the other issue is that when I actually look at it there really aren't any decent manual Turbo's in my price range. Looks like late £40's is where they start.

The gen 2 NA engine is a peach. It revs so freely and hard, just like the Mezger GT3 engine. With the induction kit, engine output at 408hp underlines its capability. A great daily driver and one that still revs hard if you enjoy winding it out given the opportunity.

A Turbo stands for an altogether different experience and ownership proposition. NA 911s are relatively common compared to any Turbo, and the Turbo performance is in a different league. It is an equally capable daily driver, but wind it out and get the turbos on spool, and it will take your breath away. Forget the noise issue - none of these are race cars - but Turbo power is addictive and smugness from having one of the fastest accelerating cars on the planet comes as standard smile Great ownership experience imho. Daily driver and special at the same time.

However, there are a number of areas that the 7.2 generation is superior compared to the 7.1. Looks (lights) and PCM3 is a huge improvement for starters.

Hi, I've just bought a Gen.2 997 C2S pdk and absolutely loving it, especially as it's in my favourite guards red with PSE & Sports Chrono.

I've not had a 997t, but have had a couple of 996t's in the past; I actually prefer the power delivery of the NA engines so I'd go for the Gen.2 997, and try PDK, you might be surprised.

Good luck whatever you end up with, both brilliant cars.

I had Cash/Transfer which helped seal it as I was prepared to walk away and look at a few other cars as well smile

I had the same dilemma earlier this year. I went for the Turbo. Any other car I've been in since feels like it's got the handbrake on. It is an amazing piece of kit - the only car I've had that can genuinely out-accelerate a 'bike, yet is equally happy pottering around town.

For those of you that have gone turbo did you go for manual or tip? (And why?)

Is this a serious question? smile

Manual, with short shift kit.

Reason is simply because I like driving!

Drive long hours so choose always choose tip, often in traffic. On turbo S only had option of PDK. On 997 gen 1 it is officially faster than manual iirc

Owned my 997.1 Turbo for over four years now. Naturally I went for a manual with short shift because I'm not female! biglaugh

Manual would be my choice also!

Any issues or thoughts on these 2:

Been hanging around for a while but from a good dealer and I like the colour.

Hate the steering wheel (I am assuming they can be changed!!) but don't know the dealer and no decent warranty by the looks.
