Front Upper Ball Joint
Discussion
I'm just replacing Austin's brakes, shocks, springs, susp. bushes ( for poly ones ) and noticed that the rubber retainers on the offside top balljoint were coming adrift, and as the balljoint itself was not as tight as I would like, decided to fit a new one.
The alt. parts list calls for QH QSJ1004S ( older stock )
My local factors' alternative was FAI SS159
On trying to fit it to the wishbone, I encountered the problem mentioned in the parts Wiki, in that the balljoint "head" interferes at the outer faces of the wishbone housing, preventing alignment of the castor clamp bolt holes.
I carefully ground away the areas that were fouling until I could get full range of castor adjustment.
Hope the pics show better than I can explain

....a little light relief never did anyone any harm.
A happy ending then..?
We're not in Thailand now Joe!I'll let you all know when I get everything settled, torqued up & the geometry, tracking & ride heights sorted. Set the castor in the mid position for now.
Plenty of time left until next Thursday

Then it's bring on those Alps!
