Hi all,

I'm looking to get a sports exhaust on my 997.2 S and due to having the OPC warranty looks like it will have to be the PSE.

Has anyone had this done recently and how much should I be looking at? Will call around a few of the centres for the best price but knowing what others have achieved first would be useful.

Cheers,

Kevin.

I had quotes at just under £2k for PSE fitting to 987.2 from Leeds OPC

I am sorely tempted.

Please post if you get better offers

Cheers for the replies guys, I'd be happy if managed to get it at 2k. Only due to reading of much higher quotes previously. The exhaust is the one thing that has been annoying me about the car and think I will now have to bend over to porsche.

Will post back up with the quotes I get

I got quoted £2400 on a Gen 2. No actual exhausts available at the minute.

Kevin,

Before you invest circa £2000 pounds on a PSE drive a Gen 2 with one fitted. In my experience they are a massive let down with very little discernible difference between a car with PSE and one without it. The difference is far less noticable than on the Generation 1 where the impact of the PSE is marked. My advice would be to save your money.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the reply. I guess it would make sense to drive one first with the PSE before considering spending that amount to consider how worthwhile it would or wouldn't be.

Cheers,

Kevin.

I would respectfully disagree with Tom on this one. Granted, I spent the £2K on the PSE for my gen2 so naturally have a mild bias here, but I genuinely believe it makes a massive difference to these cars. More so than the gen1 cars.

I found the gen1 cars sound pretty good already, so the PSE on those cars just amplifies the noise. The DFI lumps sound like sewing machines, and without the PSE they simply lack that aural oomph. Mine has been on for about 15k miles now, and I swear is still improving in tone: Certainly it's popping now on the overrun which it never used to!

I run mine unplugged, would never dream of plugging it back in now as it's a good volume but far from anti-social. It's not a patch on Gibbo's car (which remains the nicest sounding gen1 car I've heard in person), but it's now a tone I'm very happy with. I was considering adding the Sharkwerks centra silencer delete pipe, but after a recent trip to Spain I think I'm very content with how it sounds now.

Does the GTS or powerkit gen 2 sound any different?

I have no Gen 1 experience, but came from 996 where it made a huge difference. I've now got Gen 2 with and Gen 2 without.

I know where Tom is coming from, but having recently got back from a Euro tour in the PSE-equipped car I think it is worth having. It doesn't make the night and day difference I'd like. It got overshadowed by a 997 GT3 we met on the Autobahn. But I'd still say there are times where it produces some extra music that's worth having.

I would say it does. I've just toggled the PSE on the GTS we have in stock by way of comparison. The aural impact with PSE on is greater on the GTS than on the non-powerkit DFI engines I've sold/driven/inspected.

Of course im biased towards my PSE 996 C4S, i dont think you can get a better sounding 996/997 but i intend to upgrade to a 997 by end of year but its the exhaust noise that concerns me. All the 997's ive heard just dont seem to have that much presence but the GTS does sound different and in my opinion as close as mine in sound terms. My 2 choices at the moment is the GTS and a 997 Turbo. Before anyone says "Turbo noise? You wont like that then!", yes i agree but if you get the chance to own a Turbo then i think you take the opportunity.
Speaking of next cars, ive just seen in a local good garage a £37k 06 plate Aston Martin Vantage......i wish i hadnt!!!

I loved my 996 C4S PSE had it for over 4 years, I then moved to a 997 C4S retrofitted PSE and sold in less than 6 months, for me the sound is one of the main elements to the enjoyment. I am also thinking what's next possibly GTS or 7t with europipe although always like my cars with warrantyscratchchin

Not so sure what to do now then, I have been in a GTS which I thought sounded a lot better than mine, but if this then sounds better than the C2S with the PSE have to have a good think about it.

First quote I got from OPC was £2350, will get another few quotes and take it from there.

Hi there, did anyone recently retro fitted an OEM PSE system for the 9964S? I understand it is now below 100db as opposed to the version fitted originally at the factory which had 109db.

Just interested if it still sounds "attractive" enough compared to the price which Porsche is now asking for it.

Cheers.

I don't see the point of PSE. If it gave you more power then yes, I'd have one. But no, it just makes a better noise. What a waste. Now, some Fuchs alloys.................

Adds character to the car. The 996 version that is...

How much are they asking for a 996 retrofit these days?

They wanted £4500 for 996 PSE last time I asked.
