Hi All,
Some time back there was a thread regarding the gear knob overheating, mines is now doing this for some reason, more apparent since my slave cylinder was replaced, Could there have been a heat shield not put back or something else?

Before I get driving gloves any thoughts would be appreciated as it really is unbearable, and in Jersey most journeys use a lot of gear changing.

Kind regards

James

Mine was hot yesterday.....roof was off, there was a strange yellow light in the sky, and it seemed to be the cause of the problem....

If yours is hot on dull days, then the heat must be coming from your gearbox, Shirley?

ha ha, we've been quite fortunate with that yellow thing in the sky, but even on cold days it's unbearable, there was a mod using Tufflon or something which would soak the heat, but I'm worried as the heat being forced through the gator which is now loose, as the indie buffoon who done my slave cylinder in the UK tore it, he also had to ring me up to get the installation instructions as he lost the ones provided with the kit, despite having T350's and other Tiv's in his garage at times.

I'll ask my indie if he would expect a Tuscan gear knob to be that hot. i need to email him later. I will let you know what he says.

mine was baking the other day in my cerb, although the handbrake handle was hotter than the gear knob, good old sunshine, just makes your change gear quicker, perhaps a gear knob cosy is needed.

Topcats make the shaft out of some material which does not conduct the heat - you end up with a knob that does not get hot.

I am pretty sure they will be able to make one for your car.

No they won't. I spoke with Warren about it when I was looking at the issue for my car. They will only do it with their conversions. Thus, I implemented my own solution.

Not sure if that statement from TC is still true, but it was a couple of years ago

Always worth giving them a call. If he does not do it then it might be a good idea for him to do so as it makes a huge difference.

There was a PH group buy for the "heatsink" a few years ago. I never fitted mine and sold it to another Tuscan owner.

Heatsink is probably the wrong term though. It is a replacement gearshaft made from Tuffnol which does not really conduct heat.

De-catting also helps reduce "hot knob" syndrome

IIRC the tuffnol shaft was produced by Graham Varley.
I got one from the group buy at the time, and it is a big improvement.

Having put a momo on mine no problems as they have a rubber collar and held in place by grub screws this stops the problem I do realise that this would not be an option for all but quite a cheap solution.

I think I have a new heat soak piece still in a bag somewhere from the original group purchase.

PM me if you are interested and i'll see if I can dig it out.

I took the cats out of the cerbera. It stopped the clutch and gearbox overheating and cooled the cabin.

Really interested in any solutions to this as I'm getting fed up with wearing driving gloves on longer trips, even though they're red I still feel a bit of a div when I've got them on.
