Rear ended ......
Discussion
After waiting 5 months to get the car back, having put the first 1000 miles on it since the rebuild !!!
AAARRRGHHHHH
To say I'm not happy is an understatement.
Power Steering pump has blown up since getting the car back and this morning I was taking it round to Tower View for them to put on a new one today, so that I can go to France, the Loire next Saturday .... Get to the Brent Cross roundabout, nearly there, lights before exit turn to amber and I come to a halt. No point pushing along, it's very early, I've got plenty of time.
Unfortunately matey in his Punto did not have enough time, space or inclination to stop. Wet road, and now the rear n/s of my beloved Griffith is mashed.
Rear light cluster pushed through, whole back end distrorted. Boot won't open. On the positive, the exhaust is still straight on appearance.
Let's hope Tower View can do their best to patch it together so that I can get to France, otherwise the 2 holidays we have booked around the TVR this year, will have both been TVR'less.
Then of course theres the waiting for however many weeks to get it repaired. TVR'ing this year has been a right off and I feel glum.
Oh well, here's to a new company car in December anyway !!

Help Hire (www.helphire.co.uk/) will ensure you get an equal type of car if yours is damaged in a no fault claim. I didn't need to use them in the end but they promised me a Boxster when someone ran into the back of me.
Not exactly equal to a TVR but much better than cruising the continent in a Micra!

Hi Johno,
Firstly commiserations...
Can't imagine being rear-ended but certainly can relate to having an engine rebuild & losing the car for months ! I noticed that yours too is a 500 Special Edition (which number?)
I was wondering what happened to the original engine & at what mileage it decided to give up ?

Went over to fit the Nitrons on Sautrday as the guys at Tower View let me use their ramp (top blokes) ..... The damage appears to be patchable, to repair it properly though is going to mean a whole new 1/4 we reckon as the whole light cluster area is caved in, the rear is distorted from about halfway across, the stress cracks run down over the rear wheel arch, and although they don't all break the surface paint you can see the damage underneath.
The clincher though was to find that the wheel arch appears to have taken a lot of the energy with it looking perfectly alright apart from the leading edge having crumpled and reshaped .....
I think the best way to describe is to imagine a Punto being driven through the rear corner, hitting the light cluster and the whole corner being pushed in, absorbing the energy of the impact and then reshaping back to near original other than where smashed ....
I have every confidence in Dave and Mark to get the car looking better than new .... I was going to respray the whole thing next year ... now it'll only have to be 1/2 !!!
